Burn 'em. Burn 'em in hell I say.
I bought a wireless keyboard and mouse thing about a month ago and had nothing but trouble with them. The mouse is all jittery, the keyboard doesn't pick up every other key press. I've got the dratted receiver right next to the pair of them, but ooo no.
Then the keyboard dies in the middle of an EQ2 battle. No warning, just will not do a thing. So I run out in the pouring rain at 8pm on a Saturday to find some batteries for it to fix the problem. Find some, put them in, but lo and behold, it's still banjoed.
For the record, I also tried thumping the receiver against the wall bemoaning my lot and begging for it to work, but that didn't work either.
Sunday morning I went out and bought a corded keyboard.
It works fine.

I leaned that the time I bought my old Logitech wireless set... It lasted for 3 months, then it did exactly what yours did :)
I thought it was the batteries too.. but oh no...
I ended up tossing 'em on a huge pile of discarded comp. parts at the dump... felt good too ;)
I now have corded mouse and keyboard.

I don't know why you'd need a wireless keyboard anyway.
I can see how a wireless mouse might be nice, but most things with batteries that never move out of a small mousepad-shaped box don't really need to be that portable.

well, i love wireless keyboards... if you press the reciever buttons (first on the base, then on the keyboard/mouse) it seems to work pretty good... ive only experienced the need for this on my dads computer, because I too encountered this problem... me and my dad have wireless because honestly... both are desks are huge and getting wires to go all the way over to the PC is a pain... changing it is a pain... and the fact that since it is so tight of a wire, first of all it sometimes falls out of the socket, second, less mouse freedom for us :(
yeah so wireless for me, i am sorry you encountered those problems... thank you for calling (company name) tech support... good bye

I just crank my mouse sensitivity up, one inch on mouse = 5in on monitor.

I have a logitech multimedia wireless keyboard and a wireless optical trackman and they are the best things in the world I can turn my pc on and off using the keyboard and so don't have to get out of bed. I sleep with my mouse it keeps me safe from evil things. Does this belong in the too much computer thread?

I don't have a wireless mouse or keyboard, a mouse would be cool, but the wired one isnt too bad.

meh. having a wire hanging off my mouse drives me crazy! which is why I haven't had one for quite a while now.
i've got a cheapo A4-tech wireless kb+mouse (to match the cheapo PC, of course...), and it works fine, for the most part. the mouse is a little jittery sometimes, but i only start to notice that when im making fine, complex selections in PS (or something like that). the reciever is also a battery charger, so ive got 2 AA's in both the kb and mouse - just a case of quickly swiching them whenever they run out.
The wireless mouse on my laptop is much nicer, tho. a "logitech wireless mouse for notebooks". nice and small, and the reciever looks like a little USB flash drive. always impresses the clients, being wireless and all... :P
anywho... if you ask me, i want a Wacom :D

I have a logitech wireless mouse/keyboard combo that's been working perfectly well since I got it (nearly 3½ years ago). It uses an FM receiver (and no, it doesn't interfere with the radio) and I can use it in the hall outside my room without much trouble. Right now (where the it should be) I have no touble. I replace the batteries ~once a year, and I'm good to go. Mine gives me warning (kind of) because the mouse will stick. I then look at the mouse ball, and if there is no/little dust then I know it's time. Sadly, I can't seem to find any name or number to distinguish these - but eh.
It runs as if it had wires :D
anyway, see attached for picture:

I had a similar set to Coppertop (mine had multimedia controls), however I found that the mouse tended to catch a whole lot of dirt/fluff on it when using it on a wooden desk. Fairly annoying.
Upgraded to MX duo and never looked back :D

Mine were made by Belkin. The router I use is their brand and that's been fine. Maybe that's where I went wrong, I dunno. :sigh: Just nothing worked on it. Tried the connection buttons, the batteries, the receiver... Bah.

Thats a shame Kit.
I got the Logitech® Cordless MX™ (pic below) Duo About 8 months ago and have not had to change the batteries on my keyboard once yet. That includes some heavy gaming.
The mouse is rechargable and I could literally play for a straight 20+ hours without a recharge. I just make sure to slam it on the charger when I am done at night.
Maybe its just a crappy brand? I never head of those guys before.

Yeah you should man. My keybard is the best. Control CD/s - DVDs volume all from mapped buttons and scroller - foreward back web buttons.
I even have a button thats mapped to jump straight to kirupa. I love it.

ack! The number of buttons are killing me!
Just a little thing that I have - I hate the multimedia buttons that all these new keyboards seem to have. Mine has 3 buttons, and I used to have them setup "Google - Mail - kF" now it's just the default Google - Mail - Search
The most I could ever have is maybe 5 buttons if they were programmable.

I disagree Fork fomally known as azzy - the lack of wires is a convience when you have a sliding keyboard tray, and it stops the wires dangling down and irritating the hell out of me by rubbing up against my feet. Even then, I still have a tendency to play with any cords near my feet, and I then end up pulling them out of their sockets, or pulling the keyboard right out from under my fingers. It's just convienience for me.

I've also used a wireless keyboard and mouse before. They are pertty nice when working, but when one of the batteries dies, it's a pain in the *** to find a replacement if your working on something. Corded keyboard and corded optic mouse are just fine for me.

I have a wireless logitech mouse in box of old computer junk; it looks awesome but performs like crap. Nothing is more irritating than air brushing and having the darn mouse malfunction. grrrr.

We have a computer that we use as a media comp in our living room. We play movies off of it and have a sweet speaker set up, and for much cheaper than buying traditional sound system ones. The wireless keyboard/mouse is a godsend, we actually DO sit on our couch and control it, with the tv acting as a monitor. We like it so much we skip watching our favourite shows on regular tv in favour of downloading them and playing them off the comp instead.
I don't have a wireless at my desk currently, but I'd love to. With all the printouts, samples, mail, random knick knacks, nailpolish (enh I'm a girl, what do you want? :P) and notes everywhere it would be nice not to have to deal with wires getting all tangled up as well.
In short, yay for wireless keyboards.

Always used wireless Logitech, never a problem, (CordLess MouseMan Wheel is da name, not manufactured anymore), scrollwheel died once, got a new mouse sent from support! Thumb button = previous page in IE, super-fast navigation wheel (click), it is great not to have that bloddy wire all over the place, getting stuck under the keyboard etc etc..
Keyboard is wired as it doesn't move and has 2 USB ports.
My previous mouse died :(
