Has anybody tried this? I looked at the game trailer, and it seemed great. Also, does WoW have single-player by any chance? I'm guessing multiplayer is the big part of it, and the last thing I need is to be addicted to online RPGs ;)

I've only heard good things about it.

What happened to Starcraft Ghost?

WoW does not have single player compaigns. It's strictly an online game, an MMO at that. It is kind of on the expensive side too, costing a big $15/mo for gameplay. Though when you purchase the collectors edition, I think you get a month or two for free.

I played the beta, and it's awesome. I just can't afford to play it right now with finals coming up, I would definitely fail due to this game :)

Sadly, ghost has been pushed back until Feburary of this coming up year, or next fall... Big difference i know, but I'm not sure on the exact times...

at this stage of my life, i just can't afford time wise to play an MMORPG. 2 jobs, 18 credits, a fraternity, and (most importantly) a girlfriend... It just wouldnt work. That's what I hate about MMORPGs - they will never work out for me! :(.

This is why I need to rely on pick up and play games, like Call of Duty, Max Payne, and Chess (for my powerbook).

If I was one of you guys... and I had time to play an MMORPG.... I would get GUILD WARS. It's a FREEEEEEEEEEEE MMORPG.

MMORPG's are fun but like ^ said, people go no time for it, and you have to pay every month, not for how much you play. That just aint' fair. especially if you can't play a single player. WoW is off my Christmas list. I liked it better when it was just a Real Time Strategy game.

well its probably too late to buy it now.. as they said at the shops here that there is a world shortage for it now. when i went to the shop i was going to buy their last copy, but was turned off because of the paying to play online :|

Nah, just as long as there aren't too many people on it. One bug though which is very annoying is the loot bug ... like you loot, and you stay in loot mode without actually looting ... so you float around the world ducking as you were looting ... very annoying ...

As far as I know it's coming out here in Europe on friday.

I've been playing it since early US betas.

Crit:
- The games in-game graphics are by far THE best for MMORPG to date. EverQuest II is a second of course. Its got loads of nice eye candy for you all to view and even though i'm LvL 60 Hunter (basically finished the game hehe) i still find hidden "ooooooOOooahhhhhhh" pockets around the world.

- The PvP system isn't that bad. When you go to contested territories (ie places that are neutral) you tend to walk into them with the thought "was that an elf? or was that an orc?" either way you can still carve up some lowbies if you feel the need to take out fellow human beings for sheer fun. The funniest thing i've done on/off is wait until someone is fighting a mob, and just when their health is half way or a qtr away.. i peel back the bow, shoot and watch them have that second of panic.. as for a second they go "wtf was that..." in some cases they can get the jump on you, even though they are low in hp but most times you've carved them.

- Battlegrounds / Raids At the moment blizzard are fighting an up hill battle with the "Lag" monster ingame especially when large qtys of folk in the one spot (you begin rubber banding massively). THere answer so far is to implement upcoming "Battlegrounds" which is like a RPG ver of capture the flag only with hidden gems aswell. Sounds pretty cool, but i'll be shocked if it actually pulls off.

Raids are fun though - despite the lag - as nothing like taking out a zip code (aka zone) with fellow guild members. Plus in some places you can sit in the middle of town (ie grom Zeplin Tower) pick off horde and not be guard attacked - exploit/bug atm.

- All is not what it appears on the box: To put it bluntly, the game still feels like its in beta, its plagued with lots of annoying problems, mostly lag and server ques for more popular realms (ie Aussie Server is BlackRock). Some quests are still bugged (which is frustrating) and the server-lag can ruin your day.

Blizzard as of late have been taking down servers a lot, reducing your actual in-game time poorly and they really have no Customer Service whats so ever.

Most fans of blizzard will jump to their defense and state "give them a break, they have pioneered a great game!" - sure you could argue that, but when you're char is logged out on a zeplin / boat and you can't log in for 3 days, you tend to start swaying to counterarguments ... in saying that despite peoples devotion to the producer of WoW - they all admit - the games got a lot of work that needs to be done. So slapping the above execuse is starting to ware thin (espec with Europe/Korea now adding to the customer base and it being now 3 months retail).

Funny thing is, the beta was more stable then the reail version.

I love/hate the game, sometimes it annoys me to no end! not the game itself but the problems plagueing it - other times you just sit back in awe. I've played games since early 1995 and by far this has to be "THE" best game of its type - despite the problems. I still hold true to Quake, its my personal favourite.

Just be mindful that the games got problems and don't expect perfection and you'll be at ease with the game.

Oh, and getting to lvl 60 with an epic mount, FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARKIn hard.

I love it,but like any rpg it takes tons of time, I'm a mere lvl 36 hunter now, I wish I had more time to play....

40 euros for the game (and one free month of gameplay) + 10 euros each month? No thanks, I'll rather continue playing KOTOR or Fable.

Guild Wars has:

Better graphics
No monthly fee
no imbalanced player field (level cap is 20, but you can find many many skills. The idea is that it works a bit like Magic the Gathering in combat, as you can use only 8 at the same time)
no looters
no kill stealing
a good story
and so much more

And it launches 28th of April. I can't wait... :)
