I just finished completing this website, and the client has just reopened (after remodeling her store):
http://www.kathleendughi.com
She is a high-end Mill Valley, CA Jeweler
The goal was to make a glossy, high def site with a max download of 200k per page (click on a button - 1 page). I think I came pretty close. Of course I have no hair left... =)

good, or bad, let me have it... I hold no grudges... ever...

Nice. Clean. White. Simple. Not fancy. What can I say? A professional site...

Rev: For your site, you may want to do the same thing that I said in this thread http://www.kirupaforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7567 , cuz it makes your site look very unprofessional to people who have the default colors changed. Its a thinking, "This person is a webmaster/graphic designer/internet guru but they don't even know the HTML tag to change the bgcolor?! Well, I'm going to go over here then!"
again I don't mean to be a picky pain in the *** but I just thought you would like to know...
cheers,

Thanks for the comments.
Yes, white was the order, to show off the jewelery (she fabricates the metal as well). Also had to be Published in Flash 3, and needed to have the same experience on 56k, and broadband, Mac & other OS, any browser... etc... that took a lot of the "fancy" out of it.

thanks, you are the first person to actually visit the site with the default colors off... I will convey this to the client.
Thanks,

Yeah, I realize that I represent the minority of people with my change in browser colors. But i mean, it does change the overall presentation of the site if the images are different color than the background, and its obvious that it wasn't meant to be like that.

I don't change my browser colors... but I do change my browser images =) (and my AIM sign on screen).
I took a screenshot of it a while back. I still have the same theme (my wallpaper matches also, all done by me).
Anywho... you can see the screenshot here SCREENSHOT (http://8ballcreations.com/lostinbeta/customized.jpg)
Way off subject there, so I will say that defining the colors in the page no matter what is a must and I do it on all my sites.

Ok Here it goes Rev:
It isn't anything spectacular or anything that can't be done in HTML, but that is not the point right. Your site is smooth, clean, functional, and does exactly what it was meant to do.
I likes :) :beam:

Thanks Lost.
Yes, it is not complicated, but it does promote a mood/lifestyle...
The inspiration came from Tiffany's site... very much like a catalogue, the important thing in the site is the jewelery (treated like artwork).
again, thanks for checking it out.

Thanks Phil:
I had no choice on the nav, it was designed by someone else. I had to animate it, and organize it, and make it so it works really quickly on the dial-up end...
thanks for taking the time to respond...

I never put up my site for SOTW, mainly because of the points you addressed.
It was something I had to put up, to show off some of my work in a different way than I was showing it...
I will redo it after the first of the year... I need something a little more complex to show off a little more stuff...
again, thanks for taking the time. Your points are very close to my own observations.

If my rantings help the award keep its value, all is worth it.
I prob will not be participating in the future, however, for personal reasons.
