just a random thought i thought might be interesting:
how much bandwidth you think kirupa racks up? i'm thinking a whole ****ing lot.
and **** loads of mySQL databases too.
kirupa must be paying a bomb for this.

Hosted by mediatemple for free, so kirupa doesn't pay a dime for hosting. :)
I think when I asked last year they were going through 160 GB of bandwidth a month, something like that.

especially seeing as though... kirupa doesn't pay for it ! and that is quite a lot considering the site is mainly text, and that a lot of the graphics and flash will be put into cache

I have it set so that the data for the forums isn't cached, for information changes as soon as someone posts. I think I meant that the bandwidth is 160GB for both the site and forums. I try to keep file sizes on the site and the forums small.
Even though I get free hosting, I try to relieve mt's burden as much as possible ;)

You would think it would be a lot more, but then if you think about it, like you said you keep things really small as well as most of the stuff is text, but it keeps things speedy too!

if 160GB a month. 160.000mb a month. 163840000000 bytes a month.
then 40GB a week. 40.000mb a week. 40960000000 bytes a week.
so that's 5,7GB a day. 5714mb a day. 5851428571 bytes a day.
if so then 0.23GB an hour! 238mb an hour. 243809523 bytes an hour!
that's an upload of 66kB/s WTF not allot. :smirk:
I could host this site. :P

Wow, cyberathlete... you aren't one of those little annoying kids that speak l33t sp34k and talk trash to everyone that I own on counter-strike pub servers are you?
In which I will finish with the stereotypical, uneducated, and easily detected counter-strike kid ending:
'kthxbai /part life n00bzor'

160GB/mo would probobly cost around 50-80 bucks a month for hosting from the right place. Atleast, from what I've known.
