"Well, I got the disk in the mail, and it said if I wanted to subscribed I should send money to these people," said Carl Lewen, an AOL subscriber in Kentucky who does not own a computer. "It never said anything about having to do anything with the disk. I thought it was kind of like a souvenir." Hahaha... I actually thought this was real at first. What's with all these satirical articles being posted with no mention of them not being true? First Pixar, now this, geez

"I kind of thought it was like subscribing to the yellow pages," said Lewen. "We kept getting copies of the phone book, so I thought AOL was doing that. I also wanted the virus protection, because it was flu season."
Nobody can be THAT stupid :to:

I'm getting sick of these fake news stories being posted in here.

The first one was funny, ha ha, but it's getting a little dumb now.

actually, without reading anything from the link, this is the most believable one of those. ;)

the follow-up to that could read:
"...& the other 60% don't know what to do with them anyway,
PT Barnum was right :thumb: !!!"

"The only complaint on record at the Internet Fraud Complaint Center is from a dissatisfied AOL subscriber who grumbled that its vaunted pop-up blocking service failed to counteract her husband's Cialis."

LMAO!!!:)

What I've hurd about AOL is that there service is really bad. There Slow. Ect. And more. That there just the worst.I travel a lot, and AOL is probably one of the best services I have used for simply surfing the net. They have a local dial-in location almost everywhere, and as long as you use your own browser, AOL isn't bad at all ;)

AOL is terrible, heres why:

- Every time you wanna use the internet, you have to dial up/connect (even with broadband).
- Every time you want to connect, you have to launch AOL's crappy, poorly designed program that constantly crashes, and looses connection.
- Their support phone line is AWFUL, they put you on hold for 20 mins, then when you get through they can never answer your question, or assist you, so they bounce you off to another person (plus they all speak Irish/Scottish, so you cant understand a word they say.
- They charge you for the ****ty low-grade modem (a **** rip off if you ask me, at nearly £100).
- The only way you can use the internet if you have AOL is to use their ****ty program, which I cant stand.

I now use BT (British Telecom), its much better, I get an always-on connection which is twice the speed for the same price. Plus the support is much better, and I NEVER loose connection.

Sure you can dial in anywhere Kirupa, you can do that with most ISPs, you can do it with BT, I never need to tho.

Maybe its better in America, but over here in the UK, it's terrible, worst ISP I have ever used.

Maybe its better in America, but over here in the UK, it's terrible, worst ISP I have ever used.I use cable at home for accessing the net, but AOL is better than not having a connection when traveling to far-off places in the US. There are far too many ISPs over here, and many are regional, so my best bets have been AOL/Earthlink/NetZero for simple dial-up :)

I don't mind the AOL program a whole lot. Also, why would you buy a modem from AOL? Did your PC not come with one? It would have probably been cheaper to buy the modem yourself and install it from a store.

:P

Now, I thought you would have to be really stupid to sign up for AOL over any other company - but I didn't realise it was true ;)

I'm not even going to get started on my deep rooted hatred of AOL, but everytime I see a comercial I shake my head at all the gullible people who've signed up for poor internet.

Well yea its better than not having a connection at all. We have a tone over here too, but AOL is still bottom of the pile.

No my PC didnt come with an ADSL modem.

When I ordered AOL Broadband, you had to buy their ****ty modem, there was no choice.

When I ordered BT, you could do it with or without their modem, so I bought my own Linksys Router becuase thier ones are rubbish.
