Dudes and dudettes.

I have finally got some time between jobs to try and set myself up a website. I realise I still have a lot to do but this is the very bare basics of it. No comments on the fish please, i just threw in a shape to make sure the flash file worked!

My portfolio area will be built in html not flash as I have over 200 design pieces i want to put in and doesnt require anything fancy.

I have made the link from the first page a click on as some browsers dont support popups with popup blockers and things and also i am going to include a full html site link for those without Flash. We are still in the dark ages here in Perth, Scotland.

Just wanted to know what people thought about the general idea of it.

Umm... the general idea is... no... not workin for me really

First I didn't like having to click 2 times to get into the site. Once to get the popup and next to enter the site which I already thought I was in.

Also there isn't really much to go on right now, because there really isn't content.

In FF it tries to force me to D/L your swf., which means it doesn't work in FF :D

You ever played the old Sega game ToeJam and Earl? That's what the music reminds me of. Not bad... but maybe not appropriate considering what your theme is.

Section transition and motion rollovers would be better on this site.

That's all for now... not a bad start really.

Overall i found it a rather pleasant site :)

Couple of things that bug me tho, make the "Sound" and "E-mail" text boxes in each button non selectable. As it stands presently, the buttons behave kinda oddly :)
I personally wouldnt have made the site pop up when a user hovers over the yellow g.

Other than that the only thing that i dont like is some of the aliasing with the text. I'd prefer a clean non aliased text, as some of the letters look a little funny.

But on the plus side, i think the size is nice (on my 1024x768) i like the background animation and simplicity.

OOh i just found a bug :D when you click on a link (e.g. "about") it loads fine, click the next link "Portfolio" that loads fine, but click "Portfolio" again and the "about"link loads again. So if you click twice on a button it loads the previously loaded section.

That could be cancelled out using a simple if statement and a variable. Someone on here would be able to tell you how, i couldnt as i'd probably get it wrong :)

Hope this helps fella

EDIT: works with opera 7.52:thumb:

The Pop Up is a problem... because I have it blocked and i couldn't open the page... finnaly I had to change all the settings to see it...
Other than that is great!

Ditto on the pop-up. You're going to turn away visitors with that one, especially now that new version browsers have blockers inbuilt.

meh I am not really feeling it. The popup was annoying because I have them blocked. The site is a lil plain add some pizazz to it.

great design elements. i like the water effect. did you make that yourself?

however, the flash is not smooth at all. for example, you cant hold down and make a text box scroll. instead, it's click, click, click, click, etc. those are things that make flash not smooth.

a suggestion: speed up the frame rates. i'm assuming you have them low. try 30 fps or higher. makes things smoother :)

Smooth effect with the water.
Maybe u should enhance the font and give up on the pop-up.IE with sp2 usually blocks pop-ups so it will trouble your visitors.
Also:if you click on the same link twice, you'll see it goes to different sections. My guess is that you used gotoAndPlay?I may be wrong, of course. But if i'm right, try maybe gotoAndStop so that it stops at that frame.
Overall, good start.

P.S. And i would add a stronger light on top of the water to lighten up a bit.But that's a question of preferences. You said no comment on the fish so i won't make any:P
