In XP, how do you change the file extension of a file? For example: the current file type is .jpg, but I want to change it to .gif.

cant you just right click and rename the file? That example may harm the file tho.

Open it in paint and then save it as gif. If you want to just rename it, you need to change something - I think it's Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Hide extensions for known file types.

you can just click and rename it.... but that will cause issues. you need to open it up in an imaging program and resave it for best results.
