does all software work with amd 64 processors?

only the software built for 128 bit processors wont work :sure:

The AMD 64 processor wont effect any software you can run now on your 32 bit processor. Like Apple has been touting with IBM's G5, it can handle both 64 bit and 32 bit applications.

i run an amd 64 and it runs everything cos they are backward compatable. If you want an OS that supports it though you will have a hard job for now.

I think actually that MS are releasing an XP 64bit edition, does anyone know is this is correct?

Windows doesn't have any support for 64 bit processors yet, so even if apps tried to utilize it, I don't think they would be able to.

Linux (only some slices) and OSX now have built in support for 64 bit processors, and there are already (I believe) some apps utilizing it.

You have the WinXP 64-bit edition: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx I checked newegg.com, and they don't offer it. The MS site says that MSDN subscribers and those who are purchasing an Itanium-2 system have the option of receiving it :ninja:

I never said it did. And there is a 64 bit version of windows available. That doesnt mean some apps cant take advantage of some of the ... advantages... of the 64 bit processor. Games, for example, are your best bet to have improved performance when using an AMD 64.

And OSX isnt fully 64 bit either ;)
