My friend had that for Playstation 2 and I loved playing it. I actually got out of the car to beat people up. It was great!!!!!
Games don't promote violence
Actually, I find it very funny when parents complain about games like GTAIII and how violent they are when the rating on the package clearly says it isn't for kids....sheesh, it is their fault for buying it!

one of the best games ever. http://www.unflux.com/bb/thumbsup.gif
I love that if your health is low, you can pick up a hooker and park
in an alley, wait a few seconds, and then watch the car rock back
and forth as your health increases! [ahem, i think you know what
i mean]. Your health can actually get to 120 instead of 100 this
way...
You lose $$ this way, but once your done, get out and beat the
crap out of her and take the $ back! haha - too funny.

HAHAHAHA..... I never tried that as I have only played it once or twice and just drove around and beat people up.
That sounds very hilarious though.
"Oh, but it put such bad images in our youths head"....yeah...well they shouldn't be playing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Vice City just one new city?
thoriphes
October 9th, 2002, 09:31 AM
yes, it's one big world in that you don't need to wait for bridges to be fixed or anything of that ****. you can go anywhere in vice city, nothing's closed off.
as for GTA3, had it for months and still love it.my personal favorite in the game is to get on top of a car (with someone driving it) and shoot it's hood once so it starts moving. then i take out whatever desired weapon and start reaking havoc. problem is, when they're escaping, their driving is absolutely wreckless, so most likely you'll be thrown off.

Haha! :P
I've had GTA3 for 5 months now... :)
I mostly enjoy driving around looking for ramps and such, for some Insane Stunt bonuses! :beam:
Now THAT's fun!
Also, in ZOE, going after EVERY group of villain robots, beating the living snot outta them!! REALLY funny!!

I have had GTA3 seince the first day it came out. I have seen and done everything it has to offer and it is still the only game I play any more. My friends and I have different contests when we play (best jump, most kills, best rampage, etc). There are tons of cool glitches and things that let you do some crazy stuff like do Taxi cab missons in any vehical, that sort of thing.
Vice city is going to be sweet. Yes it is only one city section but it is twice as big as all the other islands in GTA3 combined. You can drive 4 types of bikes and a helicopter this time. It is also set in the 80's so you get all the classic cars and clothes. I realy can't wait for it to come out. It will be the best game ever!
I'm with Beta that games like this don't promot violence. If I can get my aggresion out on a video game then I'm more relaxed in real life.

I guess theres like 40 weapons, close to 100 vehicles...I have a magazine with a HUGE article on Vice City, when I find it I can get the specs... You can shoot people off the bikes, or you can run up and give them a big kick to the face to get them off the bike instead...whichever you prefer... Vice City is going to be UNBELIEVEABLE! Can't wait... The main character is no longer a no-name-face... he has a story behind him, and his voice belongs to Ray Liota. The city is supposed to be massive....ohhhh just thinking about it makes me want to camp out in front of my local EB and wait for its arrival! :beam:
As for GTA3 I have had it for a while. There is nothing funnier than when you beat the final mission *deleted b/c it's a spoiler* My roommate and I were laughing forever! I still haven't found all the secret packages, or done the fire or ambulence missions. Too lazy...I'm too busy killing people or just getting the cops after me and driving around. I always wanted to be in a high speed chase, and for now this is the closest I can get.
Another game that looks to be really good is Hitman 2. I have the demo, and its pretty crazy...can't wait to see what the final thing will be like.

"OFFICIAL STATISTICS"
GTA3:
3 hours of audio
less than 20 songs
50 vehicles
25 weapons
GTA Vice City:
10 hours of audio
more than 80 songs (real songs too, not GTA songs)
over 40 weapons!
120 vehicles! (including bikes, helicopters, and a plane that actually flys...not that crap dodo)
Also, INTERIOR ENVIRONMENTS!
Music by bands: Cutting Crew, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Blondie Grandmaster Flash and more...
You can shoot out car tires to slow them down...
Its insane how much they put into this game. Longer Cut scenes to add more of a realistic personal element to the game. Creates a sense of a story.

Some of the piece of crap car designs they came out with in the 80's are classic to me. Has anybody seen a list of the types of cars mabye a DeLorean that would be sweet and Ray Liota as the main voice. I DON'T THINK I CAN WAIT TILL THE END OF THE MONTH. The shooting out the tires thing is awsome. Does anybody know if they added a bail out button. Thats the one thing I hated about GTA3. You had to wait for your car to come to a compleate stop before you could get out. IF the cops are chasing me and my car lites on fire I'm jumping out for sure.

You can also break into peoples apartments. There are also rumors of paper boys on bikes which you can steal and go on special misssons. yeah, i've also got a copy on reserve at my local EB. can't wait. it's gonna be a big change for me cause i played GTA3 through exclusively on the PC. playing it on the PS2 will be a little different for me, but after a couple hours, i'll be just as good as on PC. the problem is, codes won't be as easy to put in this time around since (assuming they have codes in this one too) it's keypresses instead of words you can actually type in the pc ver of gta3. codes in my opinion make the game a little more interesting. also, i've started modding in GTA3 which is even more fun.
i've developed a "new" mission in gta3 with a couple mods. well, first i should say that a mission that i came up with first was to survive one whole minute with a 6-star rating driving; no hiding behind hills or bridges, driving. cinch. now...with the modding i'm trying to survive half a minute with all the attack vehicles (police car, FBI car, tanks, barracks, etc.) going at speeds up to 300mph, yes even the tank. it's insane. you can't cross an intersection without hoping there's no tank coming right at you at that speed. it's fun and adds more to the game even after beating it.

am I behind on the times? Of course I am. I haven't even had a system that could handle GTA3 until this year.. and the cost of it is why I can't afford games when they first come out all of the time. Remember people, I'm not 15, I'm 32. I have a mortage, loans, insurance, and people who rely upon me. Likewise I have this nasty smoking habit that I have been abusing myself with for 12 years.
The reason I bought the game is actually related. I'm down to half my normal smoking quanitity as of this week. It's going pretty good (haven't killed anyone in reality yet). So, since I had a few buck in my pocket, and I was at the store getting a pci vid card anyway, I opted to pick the game up.
You know what I like most about the game?? Or rather what attracted me to it first... it's the suspension on the vehicles. I've never seen another auto game that has so much realism in how a car touches a curb (or flys over one). When the car shimmies because it's bumped over a body or another car, or a curb.. it just feels right.
anyway.. I'm only on mission 4 so I haven't gotten that far. I'm sure it will be months before I complete the game and need the new one. By that time maybe I'll have a vid card that can handle the rain effects without any slowdown at 1024/768 or higher res. :)

See I only played it on the PS2. I just have troubles playing a game like this on a PC. Mabye I'll get a PS2 controller for the PC and I'll enjoy it much better. I would like to play the mods created so I guess I'll have to get one.:)

there's only a few games I've ever played, and I'm old
enough to have played atari when it came out :elderly:, that
totally engulf me into it. And I mean as it was NEW not
necessarily now.
Here's my short list:
* Adventure - Atari 2600
* Resident Evil - PS
* Metal Gear Solid - PS
* GTA3 - PS2
No other games took over my mind and imagination like those did.
But I will FOREVER stand by this statement: The original Resident
Evil is THE BEST game ever made. No other game caprtured my
attention and my entire being like it did. I was actually sitting in
class thinking about that game, rather than the lab I was
performing. Tons of times over the 2 weeks I played it that I
thought about NOTHING else but RE. No other game has made
that claim, so I make that statement with pure confidence.
I can't wait for GTVC myself....might just have to buy a PS2 to play
it!

RE was great but it was too short. I need long play times and GTA has always deliverd that. With a nonliner story line it is the game that never ends. I would like to see a RE game with more of a shootem up style to it. I always liked blowing parts off the zombies but you never got a whole lot of opertunity to do so. By the way what did you think of the RE movie. I think it is the best Game to Movie ever made. Tomb Rader sucked *** but RE kicked ***.

I'll check out the RE movie and get back to you...
RE too short?? nah...not in terms of the PS console for it's time!
Took a good 2 weeks of hours of play to beat it....my own
experience tho.
GTA3 is far more flexible in terms of adventure and creating
a "game with in a game" but RE just had something about it.
I'm not knocking GTA3 at all...believe me.

RE the movie... sorry, but it was so so at best. The plot is rife with overplayed, underacted, poorly writen, remakes of other far better zombie movies. Hey david: I thought Final Fantasy was a good movie adapted from a video game. I am a sucker for the computer animation though, so that might have played a huge part in it, but I didn't think that movie was too bad either. I am a "hugantic" fan of the FF series :)
sintax321
October 11th, 2002, 01:13 AM
That movie had really nothing to do with FF other than it was made by Squarsoft. If anything hurt that movie it was putting the FF title on it. I think they would have been better of just calling the movie The spirits within. Not that I haven't played and finished almost every FF game ever made. I even took the time to finish the original nintendo FF. Love the games liked the movie.
lostinbeta
October 11th, 2002, 01:18 AM
Well if you think about it. All the FF games are pretty different in their own way. The movie wasn't meant to be a movie remake of a specific game, but instead a whole new story on it's own that didn't follow any of the other games. It had all the FF elements, even a character named Cid (very amusing, if you know FF, there is a Cid in every game).
upuaut
October 11th, 2002, 01:52 AM
I agree though I also agree that FF was a great movie. It just would have been even better if they hadn't used the title of a vid game to attempt to sell it to a bigger audience. As far as science fiction goes, I'd say that it was ok. As far as vid game to movie creations, it was probebly the best that you could get.
I am a reader of scifi though.. once you start reading things like Keith Laumer, or the Ogre series.. or ringworld, or Stranger in a strange land.. etc etc etc, you come to the realization that all movies basicaly suck, are not worth the cash, and probebly should be burned upon production.
Good scifi by my definition is origional in some way, has characters that are believable and which can be related with, and has an enemy/antagonist which is worthy of the title 'antagonist'. So far, I've only seen a few really great scifi movies/tv shows.
You want to know good scifi?? Check out the TV series Brimstone. I think that is on the top of my list of shows.
Movies... that's tougher. I don't think that I've ever seen a truely origional scifi idea put to film. Anything I say could certainly be argued against anyway.
granted... just because I find almost all scifi to be trite and played, I still end up watching an awful lot of it. :P
sintax321
October 11th, 2002, 01:53 AM
Oh yes I know th games. I have been playing them for longer than I can remember. But I didn't find enough FF elements to justify attaching FF to the title. I think that was more of a marketing thing to help the hype and sales of the movie. Don't get me wrong I like the movie I just think I would like it more if they didn't try to pass it off as a FF movie. But that is just the way I feal about it. :)
lostinbeta
October 11th, 2002, 01:55 AM
Sci-Fi is addicting. No matter how trite (haha funny word, my art teach used it to describe my art ability) it is you just can't help but watch/read it.
There is just something about it. I think I just tend to nit pick at it for fun. Like..."oh yeah, that could really happen" and I get real technical and stuff like that. It is fun for me to nit pick at sci-fi movies to pick out all the stuff that makes no sense.
I agree sintax, if you take an FF fan who didn't like the movie and tell them to think of it as not being an FF movie, they tend to think more highly of it. I think it is because they held such high expectations of it being an FF movie. My brother saw it and he has never laid eyes on an FF game and he absolutely loved the movie, he bought it as soon as it came out on dvd.
sintax321
October 11th, 2002, 01:58 AM
Ya to realy enjoy a sci-fi movie you kind of have to just go with the flow and not think to much into the tech side. When I see something absolutly impossible in a sci-fi movie I just assume scientists have found a way around that limitation.

Beta: I'm glad someone shares my obsession with this game. The story of Cloud Strife is unreal, and in my opinion Sephiroth is the definition of cool! It took me close to 4 years to beat the game though! Looong story...
My cousin had it for PS, and I played it once at his house. I liked it, but didn't have a PS so I bought it for my computer a couple months after it first came out for the PC, and I played it for a while, but then the CDs got scratched and I lost them. So a little while later I purchased it again for the computer, I got to the second CD and then my computer crashed and I lost my saved game, so I said "F*ck it!" and I gave up. Then I bought it again when I got my new computer, and my video card was too good, and it wasn't compatible with the game so it would freeze the game at key points...one such point was 3 steps before a save point, and I could not get past it...So again I said "F*uck it!!" Then last X-mas I got a PS2 and the first game I bought was FF7. I played it non-stop for 2 weeks. I put 87 hours into that game in two weeks. All my characters were on level 99. All mastered Materia... Everything was as good as it could get. I figured it took me so long to actually beat the game, I figured I would do it the right way.
But the game is undeniably the best game ever made, and so far the only game that I am as addicted to as that would have to be GTA. Its in a completely different genre, but it is up there with one of the most fun, most addicting games ever made.
The other FFs were good too. I liked 10, but it was far too short. Like I said I'm working on 8 and 9 when I have spare time (never).
Oops, sorry...got on a rant about FF7....I just loooove that game....
oh, well...I wish they would release a follow up game with the same characters....
SINTAX: Yeah i was actually thinking about that, but I figure I could just use a Brita Filter and a 5 gallon bucket.
cheers,

I wish Squaresoft would even remake ff7 with new graphics. Keep the game the exact same but with better graphics and live voice acting like in FFX. I aslo thought FF3 for SNES was one of the peak games in the FF series. Did yo ueven play the anthology discs. THey had all of the cinimatics that the SNES versions of the games never had. It is realy neet to finaly see them. I think all around though FF2 on SNES was my favorate too play. It is just the one I grew up on I thnk is the reason.
Where you guys disapointed about FFX. It was too short and too liner. I also miss leveling up with XP and not stupid sphere grids. THe new quick swap battle system was cool though.

Hey Jubba: Sephiroth is the definition of the coolest of cool. It took me a long time to beat the game, but I beat it 100%, I maxed out all my characters levels, limit breaks, hp, mp, had master materia for all, maxed out my money (and time), and I had the best item on everyone.
Anywho, I had that saved on my memory card and my memory card crapped out on me and it erased everything on it, including that file...grrr. I think about starting over again, but it took a really long time to do, and I just don't have that anymore.
LONG LIVE FF7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sintax: I began playing the FF series with 7. I was very disappointed with the linear plot of X but the new battle system was pretty awesome. And EXP is definately better than that sphere grid, but by the time I actually went to beat it, Tidus was so strong that he dealt 72,000 pnts of damage to Jecht with a critical hit...i wanted to cry...it was beautiful :)

I'm interested to see FF11 with its online gamplay through the PS2. I've seen some demo movies and it looked quite interesting. I hope there is something of a plot and purpose to the game. What I hope to see is In GTA at some point to build an online city. Tons of us Pixel crimials compeating in the same city would be sweet.

I heard FF11 was going to be stricly online play...I don't think I like that idea. GTA Online would be awesome as well...never really thought of that...

Yep FF11 is strictly online play. I couldn't play it either way since I don't have PS2, but I don't like the idea of full online play.
It is going to be run by http://www.playonline.com/

Other games I play
Unreal Tournement (great game)
And then I just play strategic games like Command and Conquer Red Alert II Yuri's revenge, or Age of empires The conquerors, or Dugeon Keeper II etc..
