I'm really happy that this design forum has a life of its own now. And I have to say bravo to Eilsoe particularly, because he did a lot here. So thank you very much again :)

I actually wrote an action to do by slimey burst flash effect thingie. I used to use it a lot because I love the effect, so I wrote an action:)

I can either post that or actually go through writing a tutorial....hmmm, I suppose a tutorial would be better. I also can write one on create spiderweb looking stuff too.

Hmmmmm, I just might do some of that. But here is a question...where will these tutorials be placed? Kirupa's site doesn't have an area for Photoshop tutorials, just Flash. Are these tutorials going to remain in the forum?

Alright guys! I now officially declare, that from monday afternoon, i will start making some tutes. :)

First off, "Idd" asked for the grid/mosaic effect, so that will be done monday, plus I'll remake the isometric blocks... those two will definitely be done by monday night...

And Lost, what say you and I agree on which tutes we make? So we don't end up with to exactly alike tutes...?

Send me a PM, I'll get back to you as soon as possible...

Everyone else, send me a PM too for suggestions, k? :)

personally, I'd put Harry Potter up there, in terms of
story, creativity, etc., with Star Wars.

I know, I know....I'm a lifelong, HUGE Star Wars fan myself, but I
get completely engulfed in these books. For that reason alone, I
say that, but there are plenty of other reasons too.

Yeah, I must admit. Harry Potter seems to be very creative and unique for todays times. A lot of movies and books that come out nowadays have been done before, but there is something about Harry Potter that says "been done", but it really hasn't been done before. There is so much depth to the story that makes it unique to any other.

Well, something HP has definitely been written, that's for sure (I was a fan of Anthony Horowitz when I was a kid. Same kinda story, really). But JK is smart enough not to do linear books. OK, I feel like writing about HP. I think I'll start a Harry Potter thread in the random forum... :P <-- non-sarcastic smiley, I WILL do it

Harry Potter = cool.

I really can't see why the Church of England over here made such a big hoohah over it. Encouraging the black arts, indeed. What nonsense. No doubt a few kiddiwinks with healthy imaginations tried getting hold of broomsticks and flying, but the lack of results would soon dissuade them. Besides, if you're going to have a go at Harry Potter, might as well critcise every book / film / art that doesn't conform to Christian standards and offers a slightly different view of things. It's fiction for crying out loud!

And to all those critics who slated the books and said that they didn't want their children reading such waffle - be grateful that children nowadays are reading anything that isn't a TV listing for the week. Stop whinging.

Potter rocks, I must say. I am with David on this one, people are too funny about the whole Dark Arts thing. Personally, I have not seen any kids zoom around me on their broomsticks. I guess that means that if they are practicing witchcraft, perhaps they are doing it when Im not looking. Hmmm.. or maybe it is some kind of veil of ignorance spell!

Just a little food for thought ...

It's not so much that kids are (or aren't) becoming successful broomstick pilots ... it's that they're TRYING. That's what some people are concerned with. The power of suggestion seems silly to some, but being in the business of education, I also understand that some kids --- though perhaps in small minority --- are very impressionable. I'm not casting a vote FOR or AGAINST HP. Just introducing a concept less traveled.

Kit, I understand your statement about being happy kids are reading "anything" these days. But by the same token, I think we need to be proactive and still take certain stands and hold high standards. Again, no particular reference to HP, just an educator standing on his soap box. :cowboy:

there's only one other book series that kept my
attention like HP, and is The Dark is Rising series by Susan
Cooper. It also has some darker undertones of evil.

I don't know why people automatically think that books with a lot
of imagination are immediately tagged as children's books.
Personally I would prefer them.

sorry to butt in...

but for centuries, a major portion of society has the attitude that if you look at it, it will corupt you.

I, personally have never seen this as logical. If I see a gun, I therefore become violent? If I see an underwear ad, I become a pervert? :-\

If parents spent 1/2 as much time with their kids talking about what they saw, and how to deal with it, as they do trying to shelter them, I think that a lot of the "hyper-impressionistic" attribute in children would deminish.

I guess they feel that if they don't see it, it won't contaminate their little paradise. unfortunately, religeon has been behind a lot of this censorship, usually all because of a bone headed power play:x

And if Kirupa doesn't want them, we can always create a lobby. You're so yesterday, Rennie. Now everybody's craving for a Firebolt... :P Never heard of that book, Unflux. I read a lot but not THAT much. Last wonderful thing I read? Harry Potter and the Gobl... all right all right. The Moor's last Sigh by Salman Rushdie. Now that's a book. One thing I really like about Harry Potter: the books change. I don't know what I mean by that, but it's the way I felt when I read them dexa, some kids also jumped from their windows dressed up as Superman...Some more random stuff next time.

Also grey/silver hair rocks totally (one of my fave colors of all time).

Oh wait... you know who fits that profile. And this is actually very ironic because I came up with my idea of a perfect cartoon thing way before I saw this...time to stop babbling now. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 fits that exact profile. He happened to be the villian, but oh well, he still completely rocked because as soon as I saw him it made me think of the greatest hero/cartoon person type thing.

I'm a fan of the superhero who relies more upon his extension of natural talents. I like the new Spiderman image. Very athletic and seemingly very human in his elevated skills. My favorite cartoon, as a kid, was Tarzan -- the one that aired on CBS. The guy had a certain mystique that I really admired. You guys worry me sometimes. :)

I would like to state fo the record, that whilst FF&'s Sephiroth was the greatest villian I have ever seen in a computer game, he was surpassed only by the one they call Vincent.

Big swooshy cape. Big swooshy hair. Guns. Red Eyes. Morphs into big swooshy demon.

I think I rest my case.

Jubba

Really now boys, where the heck did this conversation come from? I have an hour between classes to study for my midterm that is at 12, and you have to go and start talking about the Final Fantasy series?! Here's my run down

7- best game ever. Sephiroth is the most amazing character ever. The epitomy of cool. If you look up badass in the dictionary there is a picture of Sephiroth underneath it. While Sephiroth was the coolest antihero, Cloud Strife had to be the coolest hero. His nonchalant (sp?) attitude and the fact that he had all these women falling all over him (sounds like me :cowboy: j/k) He was awesome...

8- Haven't finished it yet, but I will. Only 5 hours into disk 1. It just hasn't grabbed my attention the way 7 did. Not sure what to make of it yet.

9- I'm about 7 hours into it, but my friend still has my memory card so I can't play and I don't want to just start over and waste my time with it. It has already grabbed my attention in a way that 8 could not, and I like it quite a bit.

10- This is what 7 8 and 9 should have looked like. However, the linear gameplay and shortness of the overall game took away from the FF experience. It was absolutely beautiful...and what a twist at the very end...after the credits...

Kit-Vincent was cool, but I don't think that even comes close to Sephiroth...Sephiroth would whoop the sh*t outta Vincent in a heartbeat :)

Beta: Did you make that attachment? or did you find it somewhere...?

Wish me luck on my midterm. I'll be back in a few hours to post more. :)

Cheers,
Jubs :cowboy:

I agree with your assessment of the games. I'm on Disk 3 of FFIX, and I can testify that it's good, with a lot of humour and a well thought out plot. Plus one of the villians is a little like the Sephiroth we all know and love.

I completed FFVIII, although it took me a long time to get into it. I didn't like the magic system in it though, very awkward, especially towards the end of the game.

FFX is beautiful visually, but it does seem to be very linear. I only hope you get a chance to go back and do sidequests and stuff.

Oh, and I have to disagree with the Sephiroth v Vincent thing. Not even Sephiroth could stand up to Chaos. :) It was interesting to note that in my FFVII game, Vincent was at Level 99 and a real hard-***, while poor old Cloud was still languishing around level 70 odd...

Jubba
October 16th, 2002, 11:38 AM
All of my characters were on level 99. I had the 4x slash on Cloud w/ Ultima weapon, with extra strength, and his strength was pretty much maxed out, because I went to the 'downed ship' and morphed the monsters there to get the power source, and luck source. I also maxed out his luck (255) using luck source, so he had a critical hit everytime. And then when I was facing sephiroth I put 5 maxed Counter Materia on him and a maxed Cover. Whenever Cloud was hit, he countered 5 times, and then followed that up with 4 slashes of the ultima weapon at 9999 every hit. So each time Sephiroth attacked Cloud retaliated with almost 100,000 points of damage. Didn't really have to retaliate much though. Only went two rounds before Sephiroth was dead...and then the twist at the end...LOVE THAT GAME...

Then there was the knights of the round materia to defeat the weapons. Even on level 99 those bastards were hard to beat. Wish they would re-release this game with FF10 graphics. They would make a crapload of money...

I did not have everyones Limit breaks however, which kind of irked me...but all you need is Clouds Omnislash. That will cut thru anything...My Cloud was a beast...

I've even (sad, I know) managed to get everyone's ultimate weapons, limit breaks (apart from Aeris), master materia for everything... I played that game for aaaaages.

Thats good news. I hope they go back to the old setup in FF12 then the stupid sphere grid in FFX( I hate that fucing thing). The one thing that FF series was good for was the menu screens. They hadden't realy changed from the very first FF on nintendo. They had the same blue backgound and the same sounds. Why in FFX they thought they need to change things like this is beyond me. I miss that comen felling that lets you know you are playing a FF game.

Bit-101 is a member of this forum now, he posted in the Tell Us About Yourself thread and everything!

So between you and bit-101 we have 2 celebrities.

Sbeener is probably a celebrity too, but I haven't seen any of his famous work (other than what he does here).

And then of course Kirupa, but this is his forum....so I would hope he would be here...haha.

forest = Huge gathering of trees from all around the land.

I know what trees are. I don't live near any...but I know what they are.

I read about them in books. I thought they were a myth... it is good to know they actually do exist :)

I'm just generally pissed off at mostly everything...

What started it was my gf's dad giving her a hard time just because she got fired from work!!

I mean, it was no big job, just dusting some desk off twice a week! She only made like, 150$ a month!!!

And then he went all, "I am sooo dissapointed in you..." And then he pointed out that they will NO longer support her finacially...

MAN!! Does he think he's the king of the world?? Ease off man...

He almost made her cry...!!

That sort of thing really gets to me...

Just because we have free health care, clean air, clean water, and the cheapest stripers with very loose no touch rules doesn't mean you can pick on us.:P
