Eilsoe: I can't find the psd file right now, but can you send me a PM with your e-mail address in it so I can e-mail it to you or e-mail a link to the file to you? I trust your creativeness enough to know you won't ruin my file or claim it as your own=)

OOOO, your desktop is pretty nice Ren.

The icons are great. I hate macs though, although I must admit they are great for graphics, they tend to suck for everything else.

That is a personal opinion so please don't take offense to that:) I have had many bad experiences with macs in the past, which makes me think the way I do about them.

Neo_Clone01
October 2nd, 2002, 11:03 PM

EDIT: funny lost we posted at same time, and i know your opinion!

Raydred

Im totally Loving macs! Especially OSx , and if you're a big time power user you'll know why. I used to be a windows person, but Ive seen the light and the truth! lol I want a mac so bad!!! =)

and to those who had bad expirences with them, its gotten a whole lot better! i mean, the stability the fast hardware, and awesome GUI.. *gets goose bumps* ..

Plus the switch commercials are just funny =)

lostinbeta
October 3rd, 2002, 01:45 AM
Not to contradict myself, but I do want a mac. I want a mac because as I said before, they are great for graphics and animation and that is what I am interested in. If I had a choice I would have a Mac for graphics and a Windows machine for everything else....haha.

RenaissanceGirl
October 3rd, 2002, 01:47 AM
Yikes! I was hoping that the Mac thing would just be overlooked. I didn't want to make a stand about my OS preferrence... just wanted to post my desktop along with everyone else. In any case thanks if you liked my desktop... even if you don't like the legs that are holding it up!

macs are nice, but just too expensive... if you build your own PC you can get waaayyyy more power and everything else too, for a lot less money - I just like to fully customize everything!!! hee hee... I am building my next one in a few months - it is going to be a screamer!!! yeah! I:-)

I don't know who is lucky...

the person with the software, but can't run it on his machine, or the guy who could run it, but doesn't have the software....

If I didn't know what I was missing, would I be all hyped up to go build my new machine? I mean my income is definitely not going to increase with my limited skills...

my therapist loves these kind of philosophical kind of questions...

she doesn't give me any help, but she loves the questions...

Ooo.. having 2 monitors on the same system is fun =)

eilsoe
October 3rd, 2002, 10:54 AM
Just to clear up about AstonShell for WinXP, DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!

Yes, the themes are cool, yes, u can make yer own COOL themes, BUT, it completely f*cks up everything!

One thing is hyperlink in the browser results in massive system failure when clicked on, and that just made me go RIGHT on and uninstall... Plus, now that I've uninstalled, mypc is 2 more minutes slower on startup... It really messes up everything...

So don't use it...

also, most themes are for 800x600 only, and looks sh*itty when stretched to bigger resolutions...

just a piece of advice.

eilsoe
October 3rd, 2002, 10:56 AM
heh, raydred, since u say having 2 monitors on one system is nice, you should've seen my dads setup not oo long ago.

He had 3 pc's set to one monitor, he placed a switch underneath the table so he could switch the monitor to whatever machine he neede, plus he had his laptop on the table too! :P

He's a big *** programmer...! hehe...

Learned computers from him :)

I stick to 1280x1024...

Raydred
October 3rd, 2002, 02:25 PM

NEO-Clone,

Im going to assume that money is no factor here.. =) so i continue..

For graphics, ive had the best expirence with a geforce 3 card, however the geforce 4 cards are now out and that would provide great graphics etc..

Also you'll need a processor that can handle it..
i'd go with a 2.0 ghz (or even a little less, your choice) AMD processor, Oh and get lots of fans to keep it cool and optimal.

Then you'll need lots of ram, go with at least 512mb or more, i'd perfer a gig of ram. =)

lets see.. and a pretty decent monitor, 19" + if ya can (or dont have one already ) cause whats the point in having awesome graphics if your monitor cant handle it.

Thats all i can think of now =)

Of if you dont like windows, get a mac g4, its works great =)

if you can swing it, go with AlienWare... that is the box that will give some serious HP... if you cant swing the steep ticket, try VPR Matrix, you can get these highly customizable system at Best Buy.. believe me, worth every penny.

Raydred
October 6th, 2002, 07:14 PM
Yea i also have an alienware system, but i'd build it.. Mine cost alot, (basically i loved the case lol) and you can build the same machine for alot less. =) Or better yet, go to their website, get a list of all the components and buy them seperatly ;)

My Laurie has a 21". I have monitor envy.

Ultimately what I want is a really high quality projection monitor mounted to a frame work built around an easy chair. I've got some preliminary skectchs of the "Ultimate computer" that I'll probebly be posting soon. The majority of the system is built into the easy chair frame, along with a small fridge. Projection screen at 3600/2400 or something like that. Face chair to white wall. Possition speakers and monitor, swivel keyboard, mouse arm into place, pull on recline lever.

It's a complete fantasy, but it's not impossible, given the right scratch.
