I'm not claiming to be a good flash programmer. I'm currently learning. I bought Colin Moock's ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide (Second Edition). So far I've found it provides an excellent foundation.
It doesn't have tip and effects really, but I really like it.

i like the think i can hold my own. I learnt AS by buying a book called "flash mx 2004 action script, training form the source" its a great book filled with everything about AS 2.0. the book even has excersises on an acompanying disk were everything graphicaly is already done and you have to apply the script. Its made by the good people at macromedia so they know what they are talking about ;)

I recommend the tutorials athttp://www.cartoonsmart.com. They cost money but you can see some sample ones first. They are in quicktime and instead of a middle-aged guy with a voice like a vaccum cleaner, the instructor is a 27 year old. There are tutorials for drawing, animation, web design, dreamweaver and gaming. I bought them and learned loads.
