Hey everyone,
I'm using Gaim on my laptop as an alternative to AIM, but I can't seem to figure out how to decrease the size of the smileys that appear. In AIM, turning down the font size usually got the smiley size decreased also. It doesn't seem to work for me on GAIM. My smileys are huge compared to the text size.

Anyone who has IM'ed me before (AIM: kirupacom) knows I'm a smiley addict. Not using smileys is not an option for me :P

Cheers!

Kirupa :beam: I think you need a different smiley set. Poke around in the preferences, there should be an option to change the smileys :)

You might need to install some more smiley sets first, here: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/themes.php

There's some stuff about installing them in the Windows Gaim FAQ (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/win32/index.php#faq)

edit: 1500 :D

Wohoo!! Congrats on the 1500th post ;)

Those are just what I was looking for. I'll give those a shot. Thanks!

EDIT: And it works well!

After a brief break from GAIM, I tried it again today. The earlier issues I had with it seem to have been fixed with the most recent version. Well...with the exception of the background color.

I have tried all settings, but none of them change the actual window background color. I have attached a picture of the light-grey background in the message area that I can't get rid of.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I tried snooping around in Preferences, but I was only able to change the background color of the text.

Thanks!

Sorry, I have no suggestions, but I also had a question about GAIM that maybe some of you could answer. All I really want to do is change the "global" text size.. the fonts seem to be rather small for my 1600 x 1200 resolution, and I can't for the life of me figure out a way to increase the size across the board for the chat window.

download the new trillian 3.0!!!!!!!! its AWSOME
soo much better than gaim and everything, its skinnable, mine looks like ichat, its moddable (my ichat/trillian can have the bubbles and the avatars and names and all)
plus they fixed the direct connect and file sending problem that u usto recieve in trillian, and recieve in gaim.

I tried trillian for a few days, but I didn't like the bubbly/cute smilies and icons it used. I like having a more pixel-ish look. I tried the Geek Blue trillian style, but it displays all buddy icons at some smaller size, so my running zelda buddy icon looked like a moving green blob instead.

GAIM is AIM-like minus the ads, and I found a theme pack that restores the AIM-like small smileys. I also found out that the gray background color is due to the style I am using in XP. The style I use (Olive Dynamine), adds a light gray background to all window backgrounds. I go to the Advanced tab and manually change it to white. GAIM doesn't recognize the manual change I made and uses the colors as defined in the style file itself.

I can live with the background color variation....kinda.......for now :beam:

trillian is skinnable.. mine looks like Ichat, trillian has smiley skins too!!!!! i have the macish one... hehe, plus, you musta choose the "minimal" theme because my icons are big, you can expand them by pulling on them, but i dono why you choose the minimal theme. Also, right click on the background in the message windows, you can change it to any graphic/color you want!!!! hah i win!!!... ;)
