Best search engine program or script???

I need a rather small but fast search engine for my site, it's a local site *intranet* and be able to search the whole site including .pdf word, excel files aswell as pictures and of course html docs. etc...

can anyone recommend one?? iv'e found a few on hotscripts.com but don't know which one best suits me...and i wanted to see if anyone has used these scripts on their own sites or projects and how well they preformed *overall*

I'm coming back to this again, i have been having some truble, i need a search for my work site, and i have no idea how that was done or where to get started the scripts on the net are sooo **** complicated to config, that i might as well make my own, in which case, what do i need to know???
