Alright well I've already submitted my game for the comp, but I decided I'd make a thread to get some feedback on it so I can improve it later when this is over.
So... What are your thoughts? Too easy? Too hard to understand? Hate the music? etc.
here it is : Trios (http://www.matt-rix.com/games/Trios.html)

Yeah it's definitely pretty tough, you have to practice a lot and eventually you just start to see them more easily. I suggest playing the speed game a whole lot so you're really familiar with how it works, and use the hints if you can't find anything, that will help you learn too.

Very nice game. You could change the shapes to whateever you wanted to change the theme for any reason or any client! I have to think there could be something more interesting than shapes to match...

Yep, that's absolutely true, I've actually tried a few things like that, such as guys with suits and different coloured hats, ties, and shoes or whatever(it's kinda cool)... But for this version of the game I kept it simple, because these shapes and colours make for the easiest recognition of patterns that I could find... So basically I only picked them for usability more than aesthetic reasons, but they definitely could be changed *very* easily.
Thanks!

this is a really great game! you don't really get bored...only bad thing is you always get the same amount of time. you should add time if the player makes a trio. also, you should make the high score logging and display more fluid.

Yeah man, you're right on both counts... It would be pretty cool if you got more time when you fount a trio, but in this version I guess I wanted to make it so that each round didn't take tooo long, but they are pretty short!
Also, I know the high score submitting thing is really annoying with the window popping up and stuff, I've tried to make it so that it submits the score without opening the window but for some reason loadvars just doesn't like to let me do that, I have absolutely no idea why :(. If anyone knows, please please tell me!
Until then I guess we'll have to put up with the aggravating window opening and such. :(
Thanks for your comments :)

In order to make a TRIO, each attribute of each card must either have three of the SAME values OR three DIFFERENT values.
then why does this trio work:
1 white triangle solid
2 white squares solid
3 white circles solid
this TRIO works but there are two same and two different!

It's based off of a card game called Set. Anyone who likes this game should check out the card game. There are 4 categories, color, shape, shading, and number. A set of three has to have each of the 4 categories the same or different. E.G. 1 White Solid Circle/2 White Solid Circles/3 Yellow Solid Circles doesn't work. 1 White Solid Circle/2 Yellow Squares/3 Blue Triangles would, though. Hope that helps.

There are two *attributes* the same(colour and fill), and two *attributes* different(amount and shape). But the three *values* of each attribute are either all the same, or all different.
And yes, it is based off the game "set" which is a great game, but now i'm too good at it to play against anyone I know because of all the playing/testing I did while making this game :P ah well...
I hope that makes sense.
