Can we have something a bit bigger than 250k because thats very little and most sound files are much bigger.

Sorry saad - you really can't for this contest. I may accept submissions that go outside the contest rules later for a games section on the site, but for this contest, the 250k rule is in play.

Cheers!
Kirupa :ub:

Can it be abit over like 260-300k max or does it have to be 250k?

No - 250k still. I had the size set to around 100K, but after listening to mod suggestions, the size was upped to what it is now :)

I think this is a good size for this contest.

saad - perhaps you could host it on your own site and have an iframe, that way kirupa may bend the rules? maybe that is

If kirupa bends the rules for one, kirupa must bend the rules for everyone, which defeats the purpose of having rules.

I meant that he would allow it because he didn't have to host it, isn't that the original point of that rule, wouldn't he allow anybody to host it themselves and take all the bandwidth and hosting costs

No, that's not really why the rule is there. I'm sure that is part of it, but the other part is to force creativity and optimization by supplying a limit you must fit into. I know I wouldn't want to be downloading some 45Mb game because someone overloaded on unoptimized images and sound.

Graphically intense sites even tend to fall under 250Kb. www.electrongeek.net is even under 200Kb, and he's got all kind of stuff packed in there. So it should be feaseable that one can create a game in under 250Kb, especially since you have more opportunity to reuse clips, and a lot more things will be controlled via actionscript which saves there.
