Oh God.. I've just been out to lunch with the guys in my Department and ended up in the arcade (third time this week). Played some pool and table football, then noticed the dance floor pad things...
Out there somewhere is a mobile video clip proving that me and my boss have no rhythm. :P

Yes please. :) I'm also knackered - we were doing OK until he decided to hit "Difficult" level for a laugh. :P To a dance track as well, something that has no tune! How are you supposed to keep up with that unless you have 6 legs and a spare pair of arms? :sure:

Hehe,
I'm a huge DDR player ;) I've been playing for quite some time. My friends and I play on heavy, the hardest setting :P
DDR is so much fun, and draws huge crowds too.

that is just so sad...
being a dance diva via an arcade game...
Next, you will get to be a rock star by putting enough coins into another arcace game...

Hehe, whatever Rev ;)
I think your just a little to old to really get these games of fast reflexes... Oh well, I have a great time, and so does everyone else when they watch. :P

Let me tell you, it's very humiliating. :) I guess it's one of those things where it helps to be a little drunk before you start. But then I suppose your co-ordination might be impaired which is a disadvantage...
Either way, I'm sure I looked like a prat. Still, I won 2 out 3 at pool, so not a complete dead loss. :)

:trout:
see, the insults can go both ways, Grasshopper. Do you really want to get into a dig fight? ;)
I love the way youth always feels they have invented the reflex challenging game. Geez, they never had anything to test reflexes in the Middle Ages...
I just made a comment how it is sad that kids dance to a video game, rather than going out to places where they can interract with actual humans, and dance with boys and girls...
When I was a 14 yr old male, a video arcade was the last place I'd go. Of course we valued human interraction, and actually danced with human girls (to real music, not some techno psuedo-beat from a computer), so there were lots of things more interesting than a video game. We were outside, playing baseball, football, getting into trouble. Typical things kids do. Playing with other human kids, in real time, with the ability to see thier facial expressions immediately, not some computer, somewhere...
I really think this is a major reason we have so much violence in the youth of today... lack of human interraction, lack of accountability, excess of anonymity... but that is for another thread

don't ever call anyone old and slow.
especially if you've never met them, and have only been on this planet for a total of 14 years...
just not cool or even remotely respectful.

Jesus Rev,
just because I own at DDR, doesn't mean I don't have a life ;)
And your calling me a geek? Your an old guy, who spends all his time on a forum :P
But hey, don't get your panties in a twist just becuase I made a statement that you know is true. Oh and I do plenty of other things then play DDR, I play it once a week on Fridays... Tee he he

Funny stuff fellas...Rev's got a valid point. I only 22 and can remember actually being outside alot, playing games, swimming, and such. Don't get me wrong though, there is nothing better than getting with friends and going to the arcade and ROCKING them hardcore on a game of MarvelVsCapcom2. I still do alot of outdoors type stuff, its just that the outdoors has kinda segwayed into work. I still love camping and playing basketball but tag and manhunt has lost its appeal, which makes the prospect of lighting someone up with a railgun more appealing especially since I don't have to do any actual physical activity. You both have your own perspective, you just need to work on expressing it with a little more tact and discernment.
Remember, Kirupa is a place to relax, get info, and have a sense of comradary(sp?), not to drop insults. Be at peace my brothers. And if you do have a disagreement, take it to the battle section and take out your anger/frustration/teenage angst in a creative way. I know I would be interested in seeing passion driven battles, as would others I'm sure.

Oh and Kit, I'm the same with DDR. I go to this one arcade that is frequented by a bunch of young people (mostly asian and hispanic), and its so awesome to see them rock so hard on these machines. Some of them don't even look at the screens or the footpads they just know the steps!
And to respond to Rev's comment about a rock star machine, [sigh], they exist. Its so sad...but there is in fact a machine with a guitar attached that lets you rock along with the screen. There's also a drum machine. Its the fall of Western Civilization as we know it.

When you know the steps then you've played it too much. :)
Thankfully it was only us in there, otherwise I wouldn't have got up there and tried it. At least, not sober... :P

Times change - so do forms of entertainment. Several hundred years ago kids worked on laying railroad tracks and digging canals :P
I swore to never try DDR, and I still haven't. It is fun to watch others DDR though. It is more fun to watch people who are well, not good, at DDR challenging someone who is excellent haha.
Good point nj! This place is to have fun. Too many people get easily offended and can't seem to ignore misplaced comments.

I'd give this game a shot, but in favor of sparing embarrassment, I choose not to. =)
Plus, the music isn't too appealing to me. :-\

how can an insult be solved via a design battle? That is not logical thought

how can an insult be solved via a design battle? That is not logical thought i guess the same way people think it can be solved by physical fights... makes no sense, but they do it.
<rant>
sheesh what's wrong with talkin about problems? why does it always have to come to "well let's see who can beat the other at something unrelated, that will solve everything!"... well... no... it won't... chances are you'll be more mad at each other... try talking. find the problem. work on it. if you can't solve it go your separate ways, don't drag it on, making more reasons to hate each other! :sigh:

DDR is AWESOME. My friend has it, for ps2, and I'm gonna buy it. There's a workout mode, and it's a workout anyway. I think it's well worth it.

I wouldn't consider buying it without the thick pads. I got two 3 inch pads, which I got for like 80 bucks. But I guess if your just starting out, the small, skinny ones won't be too bad. And did you know there is a free DDR for the computer? It's called StepMania.
Check it out, you can download as many songs as you want from the site!

hmm wow! neat. Does the pad then work with usb, or do I need a ps2->usb connector...
and yah my friend got the 80 dollar one too. The redoctane one? Couldn't figure out the advantage, he said the others slide a lot. But the others were like 20 bucks and glowed or lighted up and stuff...

Just my 2 cents on the DDR topic.
I'm sorry, but DDR is not dancing. It Simon says with your feet. And once people play it enough and get the pattern memorized and can "dance" it out perfectly... congratulations you've now got an advanced version of the Macarena under your belt. Dancing is about the interaction of things, or the expression of things. I guess in a way DDR is an expression of being socially detached, but I might call it performace art, not dancing. Try going to a Salsa club or any form of ballroom dancing. That is what I would consider the true element of dancing. It's not just the regurgitation of memorized moves and patterns, but you have to be aware of what your partner is doing, thinking, feeling. Even though one is leading and one is following; it is an awesome interaction to have; especially when it is a stranger you're dancing with. Put the DDR pad down and go take a ballroom dancing class, you'll get to meet some new people and trust me, being able to dance well will be a very useful tool in life... "owning at DDR" maybe not so much.
