Hey y'all,

While talking with Hansel on AIM the other day, I asked him for some good music. He mentioned Aphex Twin, and decided to test it out. And by golly, it's so awsome. My god, his work is great. You guys should definetly check him out.
Some good songs are :

Speed Racer
DreamScape
Windowlicker (Thanks Mike ;))

Oh, I thought it was some sort of program to make techno like FruityLoops at first :D Being a techno fan, I'll definitely check them out.

My personal favorite is Embargo - Hysterie and the remix of insomnia by embargo. Awesome songs (especially the live version of Hysterie), and Embargo is simply the greatest techno artist out there in my opinion. Though that can perhaps change after having listened to those songs :)

i remember lost making me buy the drukqs CD. I didn't really like it at all. Most of the tracks sounded like him simply banging on pipes inside a long hallway for about 3 and a half minutes. There's only one song (which really isn't saying much) out of the 2CD album that i found to be somewhat decent.

i'm more of a trance person.

I think a lot of his work is a bit too much. But I really like "Selected ambient works 85-92". Cool stuff.

voets, what you have to do is look for albums with Jan Johnston as a guest singer. she just takes a regular trance song and blows your mind with it. some people to look at are tiesto and oakenfold. they've done stuff with her before (whoa...not what i intended)

I saw Squarepusher at Leeds Festival last year. I was.... well.... pretty dissapointed with their live-show.
I'd love to see Aphex though. Anyone have experience with a live show here?

Thor, I didn't make you buy the Drukqs cd... you asked me which one i'd recommend, and I said that one, because I like pretty much all his albums and with drukqs you get more for your money since it's 30 tracks.

Sorry you were disappointed though :(

I still love Aphex Twin though. Richard James is my hero  (ok, not really, but still....)

Now all you Aphex Twin fans should go try out a bit of Venetian Snares ;) ;)

I found out a couple from Edwin (VTS31), then I explored on my own via various sites and recording labels.

To name a few (out of many) check out...

There are a lot of various and interesting artists there.

Thor: Next time I recommend something to you, i'll be sure to send you some samples first, since most of the electronic artists I listen to I found by downloading samples from record label sites and such.

Carl cox and mauro picotto are my favourites for techno ;)

Anyone in england going to global gathering or creamfields this year? I really wish i could be there this year but hopefully next year and the next. But its definitely a great lineup set for July 31st featuring armin, oakenfold, tiesto, sasha..

I especially love the atmosphere among the russians and czechs, they do very much love their trance ;)

While at the Squarepusher- Ultravisitor CD tour in Los Angeles, I saw APhex Twin. He was there with some other DJ watching Tom do his thing. The highlight of the night was during Come on My selector because there is a part of the song that says "COME TO ****ING DADDY" which is like a shout out to Aphex. ANYWAY, when that part of the song happened eveyone knew the words and the whole crowd starts yelling "come to ****ing daddy". I was in the front row so i looked over to where APhex was and he was just totaly stoked that eveyone knew the lyrics.

SOME MUSIC:

Venetian snares
Infected Mushroom (the converting vegeterians cd)
CEX
Squarepusher (if you don't know who he is RUN to the store and buy hard normal daddy)
Boards Of Canada

If you want to hear some experimental post rock:

Mr. Bungle
Secret Chiefs 3
The Residents
Fantomas (more dark)
Estradasphere(more jazzy)

I just borrowed my friend's Infected Mushroom CD. I think I have a new group (?) to add to my favorites list for music. If you like darkish techno, check them out. The album I borrowed (and eventually copied :)) is The Gathering.

Good stuff.

Tiesto is a god. I have all but two of his magik series, and pretty much every other cd he has released...

For trance you should check out Cloudwalking by Pulser... AWESOME trance. And if I were to suggest one trance album it would be Magik 5 by DJ Tiesto... Greatest trance album I have ever heard.

Lost got me started on Aphex Twin, he's pretty **** awesome. And thanks to Edwin I picked up on Squarepusher, I really like Iambic 9 Poetry... Good stuff.

God I love music.

Phew! I seriously think that almost every web/graphic designer has some intrest in Techno... It's odd, all of the older guys that I know, listen to techno in their little dark-roomed apartments!

Keep the artists comin' guys, I'm checking all of these out, and they sound great!!!

// And Film by Aphex is awsome!!! Thanks K+!

Techno is a broad genre. I personaly can not stand 99% of trance, techno or house. The only electronic music i enjoy is abstract with many textures and interesting compositions. My list of electronic musicians is very small composed of 3 or 4 artist. The core of the music i listen to is Post rock, experimental. Some of my favorite music comes from sufism inspired philosophies and writing of the middle east. I also like just about anything Mike Patton or Trey Spruance is involved in.
