Heres my first attempt at this logo. Client is a landscape co. that wanted to incorporate another color into their logo to stand apart from all the overdone blue, green, and white logos their competition use. Yet still convey the landscape feel. Next move is to slant the text to flow with the banner. Any other ideas and critiques are more than welcome.

I think its great, the only thing I think you could improve would be a different looking font, but otherwise I love it.

Tried it with a thicker white stroke on the black text, and then all white text.
Toss up?? I can't decide

what's the logo going to be used for? b/c if it's on their trucks, it would be interesting to see how the logo looks w/o the bevel on the globe.
i'm not too keen on impact font either... reminds me of the gatorade logo.

maybe use a more flowing bg for the text.
I'd think that a landscape company should be all smooth curves, like a landscape design. I'd try to stay away from linear designs altogher. Think of it like a back yard design, where you don't have a square lawn, edged by a square patio, you have a nice curved line separating the 2...
maybe I've just confused you even more.

Used on the doors of the trucks, business cards, letterheads.
Thats just a gradient on the globe. You saying make a mock up of the logo on an actual truck photo? Or truck illustration?
And the impact is definately got to go. I gotta look around.

I agree, I was initially thinking of the banner being more flowing, and kind of wrapping around the globe. The globe has to stay, they want it.

Try good ol' Helvetica.
Except reduce the kerning and try to go for Helvetica Compressed Black.
I agree with Rev on this one though, when I think landscape...I think very smooth, flowy lines as well as earthy tones.

another good thing to try is sheer the font so it matches the angle of the zig zag shape. Other than that I think it is a good logo...Although I dont get a landscape company from the logo. If it did not say landscaping at the bottom I would not assume it.

Check out some of these logos (the Home & Garden ones may point you in a good direction).

Now, some of these make heavy use of Gradients (alot of them were Gradient meshes so it may be hard to replicate them) but you can get some good inspiration from there.

i honestly don't know.
They're probally strewn throughout there.
I did a handful for the Computer/Technology (or whatever) catergory, a few for Automotive, I did one in Sports (fast pitch or whatever).
Alot of times logos were collaborated too.
But back on topic for the guy.
