Noob question: sometimes the songs pla really slow.is this because of my connection or is it sth else?

Voetsjoeba
June 4th, 2004, 04:36 PM
Could very well be your connection. The player is streaming, so if your connection isn't fast enough to insure a constant stream of data that can keep up with the playhead, that might happen. What song is it you are talking about ? The example song from the player ?

i started all over and tried getting it to work, but again it failed.
it works fine local, but on the webserver it doesn't :hair:

i think it has something to do with the path to the XML file in the Flash file.
is that possible ?
i tried:
onlineplaylist_stream.xml
/onlineplaylist_stream.xml
http://www.myserver/com/onlineplaylist_stream.xml
but it all doesn't seem to work.
could it be that providers block this sort of usage ?
i tried 2 hosting providers.
heeeeelp

Voetsjoeba
June 6th, 2004, 10:05 AM
Hmn, not sure what the issue could be. I don't see a reason why providers would block XML files as they are completely harmless ... It pretty much has to be the path to the XML file.

riderchic88

oh, i understand why there is no PHP version now !
it's nearly impossible to calculate the duration of a MP3 file if it uses VBR.
and that's what i use offcourse

i was also wondering....

isn't there a difference between the sizes on a Linux server and a Windows workstation ?
if there is, do i need to enter the filesize in bytes as it is on the server or as it is on the client pc ?

Voetsjoeba
June 9th, 2004, 11:55 AM
You need to give in the absolute filesize in bytes. Windows makes a difference between size and size on disk (don't know about Linux) - it's size on disk you should use, so also the absolute bytesize on the server.

is there a way of making a horizontal volume slider. I adjusted all the heights to widths and x/y and y/x variables, it works, but acts funny. The volume bar is not based from the left to right, it starts in the midle and expands length wise from the center, so that the volume slider (arrow) is way left of the volume bar. ANy thoughts on how to position it porperly?

Thanks everyone.

Yeah it's an MX 04 file. I have experienced that MX 04 screws up in converting this file to the MX format, so I can't guarantee the MX version will work as good as the 04 version, but nothing stops you from trying :)

Hey V,
I was so happy to see that you put together a streaming player that I cried.

I'm not able to open this in MX though - and it looks like I'm not alone. Now I'm crying again - just not tears of joy.

Is there something I'm missing or will it just not convert?

What if you posted the actionscript and left us to build our own FLA? - or am I dreaming.

Thanks for sharing your hard work with us

Voetsjoeba
June 12th, 2004, 03:28 PM
I would love to give you guys an MX version, but MX 2004 screws up in converting to MX. I am working on a tutorial on how to build this player though, and also an explanation of the control class.

Meanwhile, maybe you could download the MX 04 trial from MM and try to convert it. Maybe it'll work for you. It sure didn't for me.

Euuuuuuhm. Another thingy ! C:-)

My girlfriend :love:tried to access the streaming mp3 player/flash file, but her dad :p:seems to have JukeBox installed.

(I guess it's MusicMatch JukeBox  )

But this program catches clicks from Internet Explorer !

So when the Flash movie wants to download the MP3 files, JukeBox takes over and starts downloading the file. :jail:

I renamed the files from *.mp3 to *.dat and updated the .XML file.
That worked :nerd:.

pixeldog
June 16th, 2004, 10:29 PM
Thought I'd mention....the horizontal version is set up to read onlineplaylist.xml, however the original streaming version reads onlineplaylist_stream.xml. Make sure you change the .xml filename before you preview the player or you will get lots of output errors!

Voetsjoeba
June 17th, 2004, 10:28 AM
Correct, but it's on another server. On this server, the playlist is called onlineplaylist.xml, not onlineplaylist_stream.xml :) Besides, the only reason it's up is for users see what code to change and how to modify the file.

What makes something that streams through XML so good?

Voetsjoeba
June 18th, 2004, 11:51 AM
The XML doesn't have anything to do with the songs themselves, it's just a convenient way of storing a playlist :)

Love what you have done for the flashers out there. Is there a way that I can alter the code so that the music doesn't start right away. (giving it time to load the song say 15 to 25 sec. in) either that or have the person press play to start the streaming when the streaming has already started

Voetsjoeba
July 22nd, 2004, 04:50 PM
Yeah, sure, add this line to the constructor:

this.player.stopButton.onRelease();

So that it looks like:

//...
this.showSongInfo();
this.indicateStatus(1);
this.indicateProgress();
this.player.stopButton.onRelease();

Not sure if its something that I am doing wrong or what. I have two .swf's one for high bandwidth the other for low. The AS points to a high.xml and low.xml. I have the original CD, I rip one at 80 kbits(high) and 24kbit or 40kbits(low). The low songs sound distorted, high pitched ect, and playing faster than they should.

I modified the xml files to relate to the different sizes and location of the file. Other than that the xml files are identical.

Could it be due to the filenames being identical and something about the cache?

Any guesses?

GREAT WORK!
I am trying to modify the file to fit in a smaller space and I noticed earlier in this post someone asked how to resize and were told to change the documents size. Well my problem is I actually need to make all the buttons and sliders small to fit into a REALLY confined space. So I made all the buttons and the scrollers smalled but it seems like when I test everything is out of whack and the progress bars are the same size they were originally. Im a novice to action scripting but I tried to see if I could find some kind of X Y settings for the height and size of these things but came up with no luck. Could someone give me a clue where to look in the scripting to find size settings ?

thanks

Hmm. Okay Voets figure this one. The non-streaming version of the player works perfectly (thanks to your help) and the songs load entirely in about 1 minute on DSL. However, when I use the streaming version to load the same songs the songs take about an hour to load completely. What's up with that?

I hope you were refering to me about that. Yes it does.

You can listen to it to get a better idea of what I mean. If you click the link below, go to the Audio menu item, select high speed and you will hear the proper sound. You will have to hit "Play". Also, its in Gujarati, a Indian dilect so it won't make a lick of sense. Then if you go to the Audio menu item and select "Modem", click play (I have a 10 sec _buffer time so it might be delayed a bit. The songs are same (You can tell by the title) but the pitch etc. is all wrong.

Yea I checked that out, but the problem remains the same. I also have a similar problem with a non-streaming one.
Surprisingly it works just fine in my brother's computer [all: IE, Opera and Firefox], but strange thing is that: it doesn't work not only in my laptop, but also my desktop PC.

I'm kinda curious if this has anything to do with firewall and stuff? [i'm a noob in thise area] because I have downloaded the latest flash player, updated my IE, still the rpoblem remains. The 2 computers in my room have the same problem. thats strange.

Ok, I've done a little searching, and am trying to use a dropdown menu or combobox of the mp3 songs... I saw initially that you posted this on the original Voet's XML MP3 Player (v1)

Yes it is, all I'd have to add is a dropdown list of the songs. Not that hard, since I've already got an array with every data in it. Just a for loop that places it in the dropdown menu, no big deal.

After reading this I still don't understand. I was wondering if you have the code handy (wink, wink) ;) ;)

Ah, yes, that might be the problem - I've recently switched servers, so things might have gotten a lil' messed up.

That sorted it! Many thanks! I love this mp3 player! it is what I have been looking for, for a very long time! I know a tutorial would be a pain to write but I (we) would love it!

Thanks:rabbit:

I wouldn't know how to make a tutorial out of it ... it wouldn't really be a tutorial, rather an explanation of the code I guess.

I'll look into that link. Setting it up is easy really. Just create your playlist XML file (follow the example), and set the link in the code (down at the bottom).

I'm using the streaming player, but it would be cool to control the volume with a knob instead of the slider.

What's thee easiest way to work this into the actionscript? I'm still a newbie when it comes to the advanced stuff. I searched and found a fla file with a knob, but integrating it into V's player is where I'm a bit lost . . .

Any help/suggestions would be cool.

Thanks . . peace,

This is most generous Voet! A great piece of work.

I got the v2 working and then discovered you had a streaming version... but I couldn't find an MX FLA download.... all the links were dead.

Anybody have the FLA for the streaming player?

I've got the ComboBox mod working, thanks Voet.
http://brashmusic.com/test/mp3_ComboBox.zip

Anbody know how to stop the music from playing on startup?
I only want it to play if somebody uses the combobox or hits the play button.
I've tried

vPlayerInstance.stop() in a few places to no avail.

try this . . .
i think this is the player before i tweaked it . . .
yu'll have to rename "onlineplaylist.txt" to "onlineplaylist.xml" for it to work (ca't upload XML files here)
you'll need to open the XML file in notepad or whatever and change the song titles and pathnames to match your songs on your server . . .

peace,

Alright, I have the player working. I uploaded the SWF and XML file to my hosting service. When I click on the swf file, it works fine, but check this out http://www.myspace.com/coldcereal ...it doesn't play anything...why isn't it working from here? Does it have to do with the way I embedded the swf file? any suggestions?

juandgar,
not sure . . . but it looks like it could be a path thing. check your XML file to make sure your mp3 paths are correct. did you upload the songs to a server? because for the XML to work, it needs to reference the mp3 files from a server and not just the files on your local computer . . .

just a thought because that hapened to me and ifelt really dumb when i realized that's all it was . . .

hey, on another note, i'll add you as a "friend" on myspace . . . you can check out my tunes!

Yeah, I kept double checking that. The weird thing is, if you go to http://www.files.bz/files/2622/test/mp3player.swf it works perfectly, and that's the same path that I have set up on http://www.myspace.com/coldcereal but I get nothing there. Do you think maybe it's a myspace thing?

p.s. nice tunes

hmm . . . weird . . . it could be a myspace thing -- seems like they have weird rules. this one has me stumped. iffff you don't mind using a different player, you can always paste

<embed allowScriptAccess="never" src="http://website/songpath.mp3" autostart="true" loop="true" width="280" height="45"></embed>

in your myspace/music category. but you don't get the song artist or title that way.

you could cheese out and put this right below the other code:

<b><font size="3"color="bluegray"> song of the week is blah blah by blah blah</font></b>

obviously change colors etc.

let me know if you figure it out!

Thanks for making a great mp3 streamer. I have been trying to make the volume bar horizontal instead of vertical. I am using flash 8, I'v been trying changing all the x with the y's but as I don'y understand all the actionscript it is a bit hard to know. could anyone post the fla. with horizontal volume slider. It would mean a great deal of help.

Thank you

Very nice player. I've tried integrating it into a site I'm making (offline@ the moment) and it doesn't seem to function correctly if loaded in as an external swf file. It says, "loading playlist, standby" and does nothing else while the rest of the website functions fine underneath.

So am I right in assuming that it only works as a popup window? Like HONDO311's reskin adaptation - www.farfromclose.com (http://www.farfromclose.com/) ??

simplistik

No you're not right in assuming that... you need to check your file paths. Most likely you're referencing root where it shouldn't be reference

sourmilkman
August 21st, 2006, 10:26 PM
OK - checked all of the refs and sorted it out now! Hurrah! The problem was that I had created an MP3 folder and placed the xml file in there, while the 'master' swf (loading all of the other pages) was looking for it in the same folder as itself. After I moved the xml file it worked.

Thanks simplistik.

Here is my MP3 player attempt for you to comment on based on this code.
Unfortuneatly, I have to put a copyright on the artwork of it so I can't upload the fla file. Sorry. Please don't use it on your websites.

It took me one day to complete. Using Photoshop and Flash Pro 8.

Again, I'm sorry for the protection images. I've gotta protect my company and ***!

Thank You simplistik, I took a look at he site and could not find a player with horizontal volume sliding abilities. The V3. player does not even have volume controls. Voetsjoeba says he will add it to the V4. player.

I guess I have to look around for a different player or try to make a volume slider for V3.

HELP I'm on a deadline. I'm having to dig up an old player I customized based on this player. They new player will feature three songs, the old player had only two, so I could figure out how to do the following:

TWO SONGS:
Song No. 1 was the PLAY button marked as BUTTON 1
Song No. 2 was the FORWARD button marked as BUTTON 2

Now I need to implement a third song:

I have three buttons, 1,2 and 3, when clicked:

button 1 plays song1
button 2 plays song2
button 3 plays song3

The user obviously has the ablility to select any song they want at any point. How do I target each song with individual buttons.

Please help! Any suggestions would be awesome and much apprciated!!
