Just a suggestion but at the moment the filters replaces any word that appears in the bad language list with *'s

This has led to people, including myself to be honest, to start typing to get round the filters. For instance d**n or s**t

What if the filters replaced all the word with *'s except the first letter. so d**n becomes d***

I know I would stop circumventing the filters anyway if this was the case.
What do you think :h:

or how about just removing the vowels? so **** becomes sh*t?

How about we just don't use bad language. I sometimes browse the forums at work, I don't think it would be cool If someone decided to see what I was doing on the internet and came across this filthy forum ;)

Really though, there's a time and place for bad language, and this simply isn't one of those. Many younger people frequent the forums, as long as people of different creeds, upbriging, etc that my find offense in vulgur language. The site should be comfortable for anyone that wants to come here, and members should never be scared off.
That's my 8 cents at least.

Using explicit language is just a substitute for proper vocabulary words.

No explicit language is an extension of vocabulary.
Bad vocabulary is "I was like..." or "it's like so funny..."

Shakespeare is full of coarse language. Foul language is part of the reality of our world, people use it every day. Because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it's not there or shouldn't be. I'm suggesting a better editing technique to deal with people who would like to use bad language in their threads, not tell them what to type or what to say.

do you really think bad language has an influence on these youngsters? we're just saying words that they every single day, it's not like they hear words like sh*t and f*ck here for the first time, don't know what all the fuss is about :sigh:

By glorifying the use of bad language, we may not be encouraging someone from using bad language, but we certainly are not helping dissuade the notion that in order to sound cool, hip, and intelligent, using ***'s in a post is the way to go.

Intelligent people don't need to use bad language. The auto-censors are there for a reason, but the auto-censor only *'s out words. Real life censors may be a little bit more cruel

The mods and I try to set a higher standard for the forums. Just because others in the real world and online decide to keep low standards does not mean that we should follow suit also :P

In short, there is no need for the auto-censor to have to add *'s to any word if people would simply not use those words in the first place. The key word is prevention, not over the counter medication that doesn't attack the root (word? haha) of the problem.

We are all intelligent people in some way or another and it becomes good habit of not swearing when your at work. Its somewhat automatic when you get older and you know when to swear and not, not like every single second word you say f**k. Music has a large influence in explicit language as well as older family members. The forum is a place of knowlege and understanding not a place of explicit language unlike other forums.
