I saw this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10993&item=4110804172&rd=1#ebayphotohosting
So I had the idea that since I have bullets about the same size, maybe I can make something similar to that. The only thing is, it's live ammunition, it still has gun powder inside. I really don't want to just pry the bullet open because I'm afriad I might get shot. Also, there's rust on it now and I'm soaking it with toothpaste which I heard suppose to remove rust. Anyone know of a safe way to remove gunpowder from a bullet?

haha, its safe to assume that if you don't post within a couple of days, that something has gone terribly wrong and we should phone the authorities? ;P

Max, the necklace is not anywhere near cool enough to risk it.

Try it. It might end up being a cool story.

ugg.. please don't tell people to try that. It's a horrible horrible thing when someone accidentaly shoots themselves. Take the bullets to a gun shop and ask them about the process.

Might cost you more than the necklace itself.

I rather risk it. After all, even if I do get shot in someone non fatal, it'll be one hell of a story to laugh at and to show off years down the road.
Now, the rust on them isn't coming off as fast as I want. I let it soak in toothpaste (?) overnight, nothing really happened. Is there a way to remove the gun powder? What would bleach do?

if you don't hit the firing cap, the bullet won't go off.
be very careful, grasp the casing, and the bullet, and simply twist. the powder will fall out, then you can twist the bullet back in, if you want. Remember, brass is soft, and lead is especially soft, so be carefull not to totally mis-shape the bullet in the process.
This is fairly safe, if you stay away from the blunt end, where the firing cap is installed. If it is a .22 caliber, it will be a rim-fire round, most likely. That simply means instead of the firing pin hitting the firing cap in the middle of the bullet, it strikes the rim of the bullet.
I don't think you will be happy with the results, but if you handle the bullets correctly, it is fairly safe.

Ok, just to prevent from any sparks, I ran water on it while trying to disamble it. The top twists, but it's not a screw so it doesn't screw off. Is it safe just to pull it out? I took some pictures of it.

be careful, that looks like a rim-fire casing.
That means, any hit to the rim (the outside) of the rear of the shell, may cause it to go boom, and cause all kinds of stories to be told.
yes, you can just pull it out, there won't be any "screw" involved, I just meant to wiggle it, as if it were a screw top, and it should just come out. It will be more difficult to get it back in tho.
All that said, I really suggest you don't do this.
This is not a good idea. Especially with the bullets you have just showed. It just isn't worth it.

Thanks for the warning, I'll just hold it by the neck and pull it out and dump the powder. I'll just keep in mind to point it away from me at all times.
//Edit: This sucker does not wanna come off, wrench?

don't forget about the ricochet!
watch where you are pointing it, be aware of who is in the room next to you, etc.
think of all the things which could happen, and try to make a plan to avoid them from happening.
Do not just rely on chance, luck, or "just wing it."

Hahaha, I was trying to remove it with cold water running on top of it. Is shoving it back in hard? I want to know everything before ripping that sucker open.

Is saving yourself a couple bucks really worth this risk Max?
I have to agree with Danno on this one, I don't think that necklace is cool enough to attempt something so dangerous.

plus, with a .22 shell, it will look real geek-ish (hunting for squirrels are we?)... Might as well wear a slingshot around your neck. :D
If you want a cool bullet, at least use a .306/.303 (bigger, hunting rifle round) or a .44 Magnum round, or a military styled round.
I still say don't do it.

yeah man, i don't think u should do a .22. MY brother did the same thing, but he used just the actual bullet, not the shell, of a .50 BMG bullet for a mirror ornament thing on his car. (or whatever its called the Mirror on the seiling of the car)

I have tons of shells from bigger guns, but, they're shells. How should I remove the rust, I still need to clean them off.

You could go out and buy some rust remover, but that might cost just as much as buying the necklace at the store :P

I wonder if it would be ok to drill into the side of the case? I'm not saying you should try this, but it's an option.

It's a rimfire bullet RMB - meaning that it would probably go off if you were to try that.
Maybe once the gunpowder has been removed and washed out thorougly he could try that.

Just a few min ago, I was advised to place it in a vice and drill tiny holes. Someone wants me dead. :sure:

I think that's the best option, just don't drill anywhere near the firing cap end.
Make sure it is pointing away from you as well

I just tried to rip it out with a wrench, it's more secure than I thought. Didn't come off at all. Unless anyone has any other tips, I just might scratch the whole thing. I'll just superglue it.
