Hey everyone,
Just wondering, are there any Mechwarrior fans here? I rank Mechwarrior as my favorite game series behind only WarCraft.

The MW I have played over the years are (for the PC):

Activision Years:
MW: 31st Century Combat
MW: Ghost Bear's Legacy Expansion
MW: Mercenaries
Mechwarrior 2 (came free with my old ATI Xpert@Play graphics card)

Microsoft Years:
Mechwarrior 3 (did not like it - came free with my joystick)
MechCommander 2: Great game - absolutely NO replay value unfortunately. (added 5/11/04)
Mechwarrior 4 - excellent game!
Mechwarrior 4: Black Knight Expansion - brilliant again!
Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries - another great version.
-------------

I also played Heavy Gear I and Heavy Gear 2, and both were great games. The only problem was that MW3 (came out during the same time, and their marketing crushed Heavy Gear 2.

Cheers!

Ha ha…..

I know I have played most of those if not all….
Though I can’t recall them specifically.
That’s because I have wasted so much of my life paying games that there all a blur now.

I did see a demo video of a Mechwarrior type game on Xbox.
It looked really cool, and people were using “Live” to talk real time and hatch plans.
I would have liked to try that on live.

Although I would have to say my fav game series might be “Age of Empires”
Its like a chess game, 1-2 hour game on the net was cool…
My friend and I played so much, knew each others tactics so well, that we could battle 1v1 for 6-8 hours straight easy. :D

I love Mech. I have been plying them since i was eight. I have had Mech 2, Mech Mercenaries, Mech 3, and Mech Assult for XB. Xbox version is sweet 'couse the graphics kick some serious butt. But all the functions like draining cooling isn't there. Mech Assult 2 is going to be sweet though. You can get out and jack huge mechs.
I like Mech 4th after Halo, Starcraft, and MX Unleshed.

I like the Miniature/Dice game... Battletech, I think is what they called it.
Classic, and lots of fun.

Well,
I'm no MW fan, but when I used to play it, it was loads of fun!
Yeah I remember that game like it was yesterday...
And darn kirupa, have you played every game?! Haha, it seems you always have a thread about a game you've played and whatnot, thats totaly sweet bud ;)

Gaming is one of my other hobbies :) I don't play a large variety of games, but I generally tend to stick with a few game types that I really like. WarCraft/StarCraft, Mechwarrior, UT, and the Street Fighter series (+Marvel vs. Capcom, etc.)

I played the original MechWarrior waaays back, when I thought Win95 was the coolest thing ever and was still amazed by this thing called the "Internet"....I haven't played any of the new ones, but then again, I haven't played any new games as of late (I'm still playing the original Carmageddon)

Oh yea, I have a high combo rate of 125 hits of Marvel vs. Capcom 2..top that :P

Pfft your combo don't mean squat.....
If Street Fighter was an Olympic sport I would represent Australia.
And me and Guile would take Gold.

Your combs can't touch old school..............
And I doubt you have ever seen or played the Original Street Figther.

The original street fighters where Ryu/Ken's dragon punches could not be stopped at all! Bah :P

The newer mechwarrior games have much better graphics and adhere to the battletech mech specifications. In the original MW's, you could easily stick a Gauss rifle in your toe if you had the room. Now, you can't do that. You also cannot have an Atlas with all energy weapons at a location where a projectile-based weapon should go. The weapon locations are determined according to the Battletech rules. The new versions are more "standards compliant" for all of you who are into that :)

I do miss the wireframe and missile view that the older MW's had though. Wireframe was great when sniping with a light gauss. Mechs seem to have devolved when it came to that, but it's ok. Mercenaries 2 also came with hundreds of mechs - MW4 only comes with the more popular ones. Nobody played the mech called Masekari, but it was cool to still have it in there.

Rumors were that Mechwarrior 5 had been cancelled. Hopefully MS will continue the MW tradition or at least release MechAssault for the PC with the heat sink and other functionality back in.

I don’t remember there being a Ken in the first one (Street Fighter) ????
I couldn’t get dragon punch out on that machine anyway. :(

Street Fighter II came out and everyone was all over it.

People use to line up for a challenge…..
I used to play like a retard, people would watch, think they could win and then challenge. :D (almost go into plenty of real street fights doing that :P)

Then Mortal combat came out… ( I never liked that )

There was:
Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II turbo
Street Fighter II hyper
Street Fighter II Alpha
Street Fighter II Alpha 2
Street Fighter II EX
Street Fighter II EX 2

There were others in there, like the Marvel one, There were pirate ones where you could do infinite fire balls and sonic booms and climb up the screen. I believe there is a III out, but I don't remember ever playing it.

Sometimes when me and my friend would turn up to different machines they would say the Master / Masters are here.

We were so cocky, one used to use the stick, while the other pressed the buttons. Or we would play looking away from the screen just listening to the sound to show off.

I still do that, I watch music video clips at the arcade while playing Street Fighter II EX 2, but not to show off, but because I get bored……

When I want to shame people who think they are good, I will let them beat me almost to death and then start playing, let them have second round, or beat them perfect in seconds.

Hell….. I have even taught my g/f to play…….. If you wanna see shame, you should see the looks on their faces when they are beaten by a girl. Even I laugh my arse off when she pulls out a tornado on them in EX2. :D

EDIT:……………………………………..

Regarding Mech’s

Personally I like nothing better than a realistic complicated game. If they brought out a Mech game that was so complex that it’s manual was the size of “War & Peace” then I would be drooling all over it.

10-15 years ago it was all about making games as complex as they could. But over the years the trend has been to dumb them down into nothing more than shooters.

(obviously because they felt the market was in younger players, I think that they are now realizing that the largest market is in the 20-30 age braket now and I can’t speak for all but I crave complexity more than ever.)

If they make a boring shoot’em up game it may have broad appeal but fanatics have no interest. If they make it as complex as possible then only the fanatics are interested.

That’s one problem with a capitalistic society, they are more interested in making as much profit as possible, rather than pleasing a bunch of fanatics.

I just wish they would realize what a huge and loyal market share they are missing out on buy not addressing the fanatics.

you're right, I haven't, back then, during the 16-bit days, I was more of a Mortal Kombat kinda guy...a friend of mine did have SF2 for SNES, it was a fun game, I've also played some of the newer SF games on Dreamcast, their great and all, but I prefer the fast pace of MvsC

As for MechWarrior I haven't played it in a while, I'm not even sure where my cd is...if I were to ever upgrade my videocard, I would check out the new ones.

Well I will admit that there is something cool about fighting a character that is 3 times your size.
I would always use Guile, Ken, & Wolferine when I played that :D

Mech Warrior Vengeance ate up more of my life than any other game. Ever.
Dealing big stompy robot death can't be beat. Loved the PC control system but not so keen on the dumbed down XBOX controls.

Now feel my Vulture laser/rocket wrath...
//sound of highe energy weapons and missile salvos

So favourite Mechs everyone and why....

Vulture wasn't great on paper but I love the way it looks and it can go like the clappers when customized right.

Medium:

Shadow Cat It has jump jets, is fast, and contains plenty of points for having a few large lasers with a machine gun/srm combo.
Ryoken Far better than the Shadow Cat because of its better electronics, jump jets, and LRM slots!
Heavy/Assault

Atlas/Daishi The ultimate assault mechs. They both contain plenty of locations for the heavy weapons.
Fafnir In MW4 mercs. So many omni points. You can customize it anyway you want - Dell style!
My all time favorite would be the Daishi. There is nothing better than having three Gauss Rifles or 3 Clan LBX AC20s with 2 ER Large lasers!

Its fun to have custom battles between one Daishi with all the trimmings and a pack of ullers. Its like an elephant being taken down by jackals. But one direct hit from the daishi and your screwed. If you stay behind the daishi it can't turn quick enough to get a good shot!

Epic stuff!

Sigh :(

http://pc.ign.com/articles/390/390490p1.html

Over the past few months there has been plenty of speculation, email, and pleas for information regarding the future of the PC MechWarrior franchise, namely MechWarrior 5 (http://pc.ign.com/objects/496/496466.html). Although an exceptional effort was made by an extremely creative and talented development team, we have decided not to continue the development of the project at this time.
That's unfortunate. I hope they port MechAssault with extra features to the PC then :)
