I recently upgraded to Flash MX 2004 and had to make a lot of alterations to a site for someone (created by someone else with Flash 4 and a few of the files had been modified in Flash 5). What I was running into is the larger files would make csrss.exe run at 100% cpu and imagine trying to edit a paragraph of text and spending 20 minutes doing it. Kind of annoying since I told the person about 2 hours rate to make the appropriate changes and had to stick to my bid. I installed Flash 5 thinking maybe that would help and didn't seem to make a difference, so I buckled down and finished the work.
Never could find out what caused it.

crss.exe is another one of those things that are needed for your system to run. There are some trojans that interefere with crss.exe Check www.symantec.com do a search for crss.exe

I know its not a virus or trojan. Only happens with a couple of those files. Otherswise I never see this issue.
I have checked all over the net to see if anyone else has had a similar problem, as well as Macromedias site.
I am well safe guarded behind a firewall and my systems are scanned on a regular basis, as well as ports are monitored,etc.., I am security conscious.
csrss.exe has something to do with display if I remember correctly.
*update*
Csrss.exe == trojan but != csrss.exe which is a valid system binary.

I'm actually having the same exact problem, and finding a fix is almost impossible. I've been searching on Google for hours with no luck. It's really irritating.
I've ran virus checks, spyware checks, and system checks... everything is ok.
Just wanted to bump the thread to see if anyone else has the same problem or a fix.

i really doubt it. csrss.exe is a really really critical system process. whenever something like your problem comes up it indicates a problem with your user profile which is preventing threads from closing correctly etc. etc. just go the ms knowledge base and take a look about. you might find something that helps.

The problem I had was with a driver for the onboard CMedia audio.

that could also affect your user profile, can muck up some settings that end users shouldn't touch and yet drivers often mutilate....
utterly ridiculus, if i didn't have to use windows for some programs i would be on linux right now!!!!

Yep... I got it solved ages ago... another issue I have had is with corrupt fonts. This also caused fluctuating high/low cpu usage when using flash. Found that if I unlinked blocks of fonts (I was using TypeManager at the time) I found a range of fonts where there was a bad one - removed those (and a font I was using for that project) and it stopped... which now when I reread my original question may have been the problem at that time.

even though your problem is solved I still advise you to shove a waffle into your cd drive and then role your hard drive down the stairs just to show your computer who's boss.
