We were running it at work so our group could 'share' tunes by connecting to the server but the IT Nazis yanked our privelegs . . . :(

itunes is great though!

I used to like ITunes, until Winamp 5 came out. It is what used to be great about Winamp 2 and what was missing from Winamp 3. I have to admit Winamp blatantly copied ITunes's library layout, however its much nicer overall.

I found ITunes way too laggy. I used to have a really powerful computer back a year or so ago, and right now its can still be considered faster then most, and I found it to be annoyingly laggy with about 15 GB's of music inside.

The thing that makes Itunes lag is that it doesn’t use any Windows inbuilt procedures to speed up the application. It attempts to use its own classes/functions and thus gets bogged down. It basically writes an image to the screen itself and doesn’t use Windows to help speed up the process. I guess it’s a way of declaring independence from Microsoft, however, the consumer gets screwed with a slower app. Ever since Winamp 5 came out, that’s all I use.

BTW, Hi guys. I haven’t been here in a while because I don't do web-stuff anymore. I'll cya guys around.

Well ask, to each man his own, but itunes owns.

Note: iTunese 4.5 now has support for WMA files :D

iPod software 3 for Mac users :D Big day to check your software update :thumb:

I think that would do good for the iPod, but I would be surprised if it did... let me know if you find out if it does or not.

Not listed on the site:
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF, Apple lossless and WAV

Cant seem to even open it to my iTunes library, could it be that Cult of the Mac is wrong? Yep :-/

I dont see any advantages to WMA as it is.

kirupa
April 28th, 2004, 07:14 PM
All of my music files are in it, and WMA is easier for me. I don't have to download and install any 3rd party apps, and most programs w/e of Apple's products/hardware support it :)

Like I posted in a thread in C&G a few months ago, if the primary issue is compatibility with products I will probably not use, I have no real incentive to convert all of my CDs to MP3.

Well the iPod is stylish, trendy, easy to use, great interface, and it isnt clunky.

Incentive? Yep :D

I have a friend who has, I think, the 20 GB one. Not only does he carry his entire CD collection in his pocket with that thing but he can also carry data - he is a cartographer for National Geographic and transfers map data and artwork back and forth between work and home (yes, he's an uber geek and a work-a-holic but he creates incredible maps and listens to tunes while he does it!). But that seems to be a pretty handy little feature of the iPod.

I know. I wish there was a decent non-mac version that had as many features. :(

(I'd say "PC" but might get yelled at by the "THEY-ARE-ALL-PCS! PERSONAL COMPUTERS!" guy, lol).

I think that the Windows iTunes isnt half bad tbh, it can get better, but i like it as is :D

Well the iPod is stylish, trendy, easy to use, great interface, and it isnt clunky.

Incentive? Yep :DMaybe, but in my world, the software adjusts to me. I don't jump because the software tells me to. I don't change software because certain hardware won't work with it. I simply choose a hardware that does support my choice in software.

It's all about the food chain. I would eat an Apple. An Apple would not eat me....unless it wants massive indigestion :)

i've been using the windows version of iTunes since the day it was first released for windows. i used to use winamp all the time. when i heard iTunes came out for windows, i figured i'd download it, and give it a try.

i've never used winamp since.

the browse feature on the library alone makes it worth switching to iTunes.

i haven't really used any of the new features in 4.5 yet, but the iMix sounds interesting.

one thing that i find really cool is that you can make a playlist then sell it on iTMS, i wanna try that real bad :D
