hi,

this is a logo i've developed for a day spa... aiming to convey peacefulness, relaxation, nature, etc.

there's a few things i'm worried about for it, so comments would be great.
1) The font i used: I think it looks quite neat, but i'm just worried that it will be a bit too corporate, perhaps not creating the desired feel. But, i was thinking about other possibilities, and i think a more 'organic' font might look too sloppy or something.

2) it feels a bit long - the logo with all the text underneath ends up being quite a long block... hope people understand what i mean. I was thinking of perhaps putting the text a bit higher, even overlapping it with the stem of the leaf.

3) also with the text... i wanted it to be an even block, so i had to make the word "glen" bigger so they'd all be even width. Is there any way i can make them aligned without placing emphasis on the word?

C & C welcome, thanks :)
Stu

It doesn't feel like it is one piece. It doesn't have the togetherness, that a logo should have. Try to better incorporate the text and the logo.

I love the design, maybe the letters are too large but it looks very good overall, GJ :thumb:

i agree with RMB - maybe try making the text the same colors as the logo. also, you could try pushing the together so the letters go in front of the bottom of the leaf.

I love the concept.....something is weird with the ripples does not look like the leaf is in the water. Same on the text but that is a nice concept.

flip the leaf, it feels like its upside down, otherwise looks great

great concept, if your worried about the type being too coporate try a san serif font (arial type font) which dosent have the sharp edges which arent really peacefull objects (creates more of a sharp edge , straightthinking, to the point, corporate look) i think a sanserif would fit this logo much nicer.

Also the whirls around the leaf, make the leaf looks sorta like its in turmoil, a whirlwind, maybe some more natural free flowing lines would give it that relaxed feel.

keep going :)

thanks for all the comments everyone...

i've experimented with a few of the things you mentioned, and i've got 4 more samples... in particular, i focused on trying to make the text and the symbol interact better.

tell me what you think!
(the third one was mucking around with the ripples, to try and make the leaf sit in the water, in response to stank's comment, but i don't think it really worked :P)

thanks

#3 is the best leaf as it looks like it is in the whirlpool....mix #3 with #2 and you have a winner

How about "Yarra Glen" is above the leaf, and kind of dipping into it like you have above. Then have "Day Spa" below the leaf, also kind of dipping into it.

thanks again for the comments :)

RMB i really liked that idea of splitting up the text... looks better balanced and seems to help make the logo fit together.

and soulty, i've also tried a different font - it's still serif (i couldn't find any nice looking sans serif from my collection of fonts and didn't want to go looking :P) but it's a bit less sharp.

i also kept one leaf without the extra ripples behind, so it looks more like the leaf is in the water, but i think it also looks a bit plain... what do people think? (no.3)

thanks heaps everyone, i feel like i'm getting somewhere :}

Hi,

The 3 one looks good how about adding a vein to the leaf in the middle. It will look more natural.

True, it does need to look more like a leaf.

Very nice, but maybe it shouldn't be justified. It makes the text look strange. I don't have any suggestions for what should be done.

Just a thought...

I like your #3 the best.... I might suggest making some of the text the same blue color as the blue in your water... or make the whole logo one color - if it can be identified in black and white, it can be a good logo.

Stick with 2 colors. Dont introduce black into the logo if its not needed.

As it is on the first design you've shown the typography is solid and works very well but once you got to the other versions it sorta fell apart.

The symbol/graphic of the leaf works well with the water drop but how about introducing a 2nd leaf into the design?

I think that you're on the right track with this. Fix up that leaf and work on your typography and you'll be on your way to a nice logo.

actually looking at it again, i think the power of the icon is lost behind the type, its almost hiding. also i dont like the white outline that intersects the type with the image. it tends to give the leaf a odd shape, well basically you are losing the shape of the leaf and its turning into a lemon shape figure. i agree with jnicklo the type was actually stronger the first time around and as i said before a san-serif font could fit nicer. keep it within two colors. (less cost ;))

If you want to use a sans serif go with a classy one like Avant Garde.

I wasn't saying to put black in it, but if he had to print it as black on white, it shouldn't loose any of the style.

Agreed SeiferTim, I usually do a logo in B&W first unless Im stressed for time on a deadline.

If a logo cant work in B&W then the chances it will work in color are slim.

Here is a logo I did a while back which used a leaf.....maybe it'll give you some ideas. (It's not great but hey, may stimulate your imagination) :)

nice logos! what's the font you used in #5 of the "original logos" ? cause that's quite a nice sans serif font.

once again, thanks everyone for the comments... i'll hopefully have some time today to experiment a bit more and try to resolve it. I had no idea there would be so many different ideas of stuff to try, and all worthwhile!

I reckon the upside-down leaf is better. :!:
