Transparency

Hi, it seems that I am having trouble with transparency. I created a white box and I applied a "Layer Style" of Outer Glow and Stroke. Everything looks fine but when I add a layer behind it it doesn't show the Outer Glow. Does anyone know the problem or what I am doing wrong?

try changing the blend mode of the glow to something else... like "normal" mby
