Cyber-Shot Pro DSC-F828

Well until today, I was thinking that I wanted a Rebel, but my dad saw this at CompUSA, and it seems like a really good deal. It comes with a zoom lens, which the Rebel does not, and is 8 megapixel, which is significantly more than the Rebel. I was wondering if anyone had had experience with this camera, and what your thoughts are. Also, I know in Mdipi's thread, there was a link to an awesome site with a very extensive review, does anyone know of any good reviews for this camera?
EDIT: found one- http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828/

Also, I don't think the lens is swapable, is this something that I would really need?

boing...

got a 717 and it its worth the money...
it has 5 megapixels... but the greates tool imo is the manual zoomring...

you dont really need another lens... those lenses are useable for anything... macro works fine with my cam!

but it mainly depends on what you want to photograph...

Ok, I think this is what I am going to buy. I went to CompUSA today and had a look at it. It is simply amazing. The only thing that I don't like is that the viewfinder isn't optical, it has another LCD in there... But for my purposes it should work fine :)

I hear alot of good things about that camera.. I dont think its a true SLR, but as far as I know it matters little, the Rebel is actualy at true SLR. Its a bit pricy though, I got myself a FinePix s7000 and that things is almost exacly like the one ur looking at, fake SLR and all, but cost about 400$.

hsss.... CompUSA... god I hate those Bastards!

AFAIK, the 828 is a true SLR...
here are the main characteristics of a SLR.
1. You can add some more features, buying tools -> "Systemcam" is another name for SLR
2. Viewfinder works through objective -> What you see in the viewfinder is finally the picture
3. Exact sharpnesscontrol
4. Exact displaydetail
5. Exact lightmeasuring by objective

there are general 2 types of SLR´s:
1. Autofocus SLR´s with lensaperture- and timeautomatic (i call it robot ;))
2. SLR´s with manual exposure and distance-settings

those are the main features of a "true" SLR...

hope this cleared a few questions about SLR´s ;)

Well I know what SLRs are, but I'm thinking that I don't need the optical viewfinder. That's really the only difference that I saw. What I really want control of is the extra control that the camera gives me. Specifically focus, apperature, and shutter speed. I've been using a 35 mm SLR for about the past year, and taken 2 photography classes with it. I'm really enjoying photography so I decided to take it to the next level by making it digital. (I am also taking a digital photography class next semester).

I have a SLR (film) Rebel Z from Canon and I love that camera. I finally broke down and got a digital camera, a Sony Mavica CD500. So far I think it has taken some excellent pictures, however I still use my film camera when I want to photograph certain things. I have not tried a digital SLR yet, I have read good things about them, but I am a little reserved about spending $800 on one, when I am still so happy with my film camera. =)

Cheers!
