OooooOOOOoooOOOO.... purdy.
7.5/10. Needs a different colour that stands out, like a red, lime green, or light blue. That would top it off, and set this layout on fire :D

yeah but im not amazing at photoshop and almost only no how to change the color by putting a color overlay, but that does not work well because it takes away the gradients and stuff
is there any other way?

You're going to want to do something like below, except what I could do was limited to your .jpg, so you should be able to do much better. All I did was:
1. Use the rectangle marque tool to create a box as big as I wanted (over the striped bar for example).
2. Created a new layer
3. Filled in the rectangle with a red color.
4. Went to the top of the layers window, with the red layer selected, and set its mode to "Soft Light"
You should be able to achieve something much better with a proper .psd though :)

yes but dont the colors allways turn a little shade of blueish with them.... lol see you did red, but it turned pink

Why don't you try with your proper .psd and work with different colors? I can't help the fact it turns pink, because I can't modify the layers underneath :P Its your decision obviously. Its very nice ATM.
EDIT: ATM = At The Moment

Nice layout dude. i slightly agree with colin, yes i does need colour, but that colour can come from your content, which would really make the content stand out.
if you want to colour areas of the layout you could make a hue and saturation layer , that can nest all the layers you want coloured under it.

ok, i was too lazy to do that color change ( i might do it tommorow, but i just whipped up this, better or worse... its just a little change... (its in lower quality b/c it wouldnt fit)

Even if you made those content boxes the same color that would be awesome. Getting another shade in there did the trick for me, good work :) Look forward to seeing it with content, I see no problems with it now :D

Function and form must coincide together, harmoniously. The content must influence the aesthetics, never the other way around.
Here you have a layout for content that is non-existant. Why? What will the site say? What will it do? What is the goal?
Build these concepts to their maximum conclusion, and then let the structure of the site reveal itself.
Any other option is non-effective.

March 12th, 2004, 04:06 PM
oh god that was very confusing... what did you just say???
McGuffin
March 12th, 2004, 04:30 PM
Basically said you should be designed the site around the content.

Looks very fine porpous. Although there's is also some part in my head that says I have to agree with the others, your flash layout should be linked to you content... I mean, f.e. if you make a site about flowers you would try to make something with a flower, do you understand what I mean?
If you don't agree, just do it with that lay-out looks nice for sure! :thumb:

well you see its a flash mulitplayer gaming website, with chat and everything, so there isnt really... 1 topic... the games are differnt...
porpous2
March 12th, 2004, 08:36 PM
hmm so how should i work about this then? sine most people want it to relate to the content, but each little game (which is the content) is totally differnt, im totlally stumped:m:

Take it to your clients. Ultimately, if they like the layout, obviously go with it. If not, stash it away, and then once a new one comes along just say "I have this layout pre-made, would you like to use this?" You can always make a new layout for this job.

March 12th, 2004, 10:32 PM
hehe... this is for me not a client, pretty much this site is... a mass multiplayer universe of flash games that you can get coins and get ratings and stuff on the website, and play over the internet against other people, and flash chat and everything... its not for a client, im not a designer, im not that experianced, ive only had photoshop for a few months... maybe 3 or 2.5

March 12th, 2004, 11:12 PM
Oh, well in that case, go with it if you want ;P

Don't take actions based on my posts, I suck at webdesigning that's why I quote myself
If you don't agree, just do it with that lay-out looks nice for sure!
:P

well thats what i need, im not trying to please designers as much as the overall community of people. My site isnt reaching designers, its reaching people who like multiplayer flash games over the internet.

I think it will be very pleasing. I just showed it to my brother and he said it kicks *** ;P

It looks nice. I would put little icons representing the different games up on the page to color it up... and if you're going to have coins in the site, why not sprinkle some coins randomly around the layout, just to add something interesting to the site - don't put them anywhere intrusive, just have them kind of poking out from the corners, or from behind other things... just a suggestion... :beam:
porpous2
March 13th, 2004, 02:21 PM
hmm, you see those things down at the bottom right, i tried to sprinke them all over and the webpage sucks... hmm, ill try your way.

looks cool. i know i said that the content should reflex the layout, but i think for that particular sea shot (if its going to be animated) would be better without grunge inside, maybe on the outter of it as a border, 1 or 2 pixels inside the image, not spread across, for content with type , that effect would be fine.
Also spotted that you need to fix that type for the nav, too dim, cant see it, try a stronger colour. keep going !
