Hey everybody, was wondering how they did this in Pshop? What I am referring to exactly is the white faded lines in the background, I have tried every combination of filters I know but I cant get something similar, any ideas?

Here's what I did - with image included.

1. Design your image
2. Select just the image design - nothing outside
3. Take another image (you'll see mine in the example) - and paste into the image that you have.
4. Use the filter multiply
5. Lastly set the transparency down to approx 21 percent or whatever suits you.

Shaz out!

From that massive picture i can't really see what white lines you are talking about. If you post the image at its orginal size then i may be able to help...

Hey Shaz,
you know that abtract image you have sitting in your window?
I never found a way to create those...
Do you create them in PS or in a 3d based app?
Just wondering, thanks!

I've created them both in photoshop and in 3d programs...but if you just want to do something quick like that - just find one that's already made. Most good artists use good art to make good art. Just a quick tip. Nothing wrong with using someone else's work to enhance your own work as long as you don't use the whole thing and then put your name on it.

Alright Shaz,
but I've searched for tutorials on how to create them myself and I just cant find them!
I have maya and ps7, so I have the resources.
I've looked a lot and can't find a good tutorial on it!
thanks

For tedc - just find a great wallpaper that you think rox! That's the first thing I did. Then just make sure it has some light colors and some dark colors. When you blend them on a blue background it almost always comes out nice. After that just drop down the transparency and try and make sure the light colors are at the top and the dark ones are near the bottom. This all goes into lighting theories and color theories...whatever...but all in all it creates a great effect.

Now for grinch - your asking a pretty broad question. There are quite a few tutorials out there for how to design different things like these...but its just a collage of images. If you know what a collage is - you just find or make different images and put them all together. A good collage depends on a good artist. You must first know photoshop in and out to design some good collages so go to the photoshop tutorials listed all about out there and learn them well....they each will teach you the steps that you'll learn to use to mesh all your designs together. Same goes for 3d programs. In photoshop learn your blending techniques...in 3dstudio max or maya or whatever learn how to make spikes or some balls with some good lighting. Throw them together, work on it for months until your eyes bleed....then if it looks good to you post it and we'll give you tips on improving it.

Collages are just throwing together all of your great work that you've done separately....or throwing together someone elses great work and doing a grunge spin, or maybe blending it, setting transparencies etc...it basically is the last step of design. Here's an example tutorial -
http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_planet.html

Make this cool planet...and find some cool wallpapers...throw them together like this example that I made here....make it all blue except for a few things and blam. Just like cooking or whatever...take some premade stuff (snickers) and some more home made stuff (pudding) throw in some more stuff (marshmallows) and put it in a bowl and call it Australian vignette and your set!

Using "premade" stuff is probably fine for personal use or for non-profit, but if you are planning on selling your work or making a profit off of it, you really need to ask the original artist if using their work is ok.

Or you could also use stock photos, look for links in the top of the drawing and design forum. (In the resources thread)

Shazmax, you seem like you are very good with photoshop, maybe you could write some tutorials for kirupa ;)

Yeah, thanks Shaz for that.
I've made many awsome collages about many things, and they did consist of some other peoples work.
Thanks

Grinch -

A lot of people have asked questions about making abstract 3d stuff. Try using the search tool, but mainly just fool around in Maya or Max. Also, if you can find someone who is good at doing the kind of work you like, try getting in contact with them and asking them.

Lol good catch...I didn't even think about it. I wasn't sure what he was quite talking about at first...and I'm not sure that's even a header. I'm sure it could be...but if he's going to add something above it...blah whatever. Funny nonetheless.

No, its a footer, in the white space next to the curve goes the privacy policy and everyhting, the header is a bit more complicated. Thanks for all your help!
