Despite my extremely insecure PC (no firewall, on cable) and my extremely out of date virus scan (AVG, very old verion) I STILL have yet to suffer ANY problems related to 'hackers' or viruses. I'tll happen one day though. I've had some experience with hacking, but I don't know if the forum frowns on that type of talk or not, so :x

I personally don't like firewalls.

Virus scanners, on the other hand, I fell, are a necessity for any computer. You never know what you can get these days.

I know, I REALLY should have one.... the windows XP pro firewall is enabled SOMETIMES, but its probably full of holes anyway.

depends on what connection you go... for cable (or dsl here in germany) i use a broadband router with hardwarefirewall and norton antivirus... imo the best solution... you could use norton internet security 2004. it includes personal firewall (easy to setup), norton antivirus and some other tools like antispam... its one of the best products at the moment ;) :thumb:

ditto - most of the times it's someone who sat in front of your computer and had live access to it; remote hacking is extremely rare....

Check the date of creation of your textfile and try remembering if you had any party involving alcohol at that same time..

I had a trojan that allowed a hacker to access my computer remotely and send spam through it, but a reformat fixed it (i hope)

I had someone store 10 gigs of mp3s, DVD's, etc. on my HD, without my knowledge once...

So I now use Zone Alarm Pro, and have it cranked up to full speed. Since then, I've had no problems whatsoever.

WOW 10 gb and u never even realized that.

and elya did u say hAckkErIndiAnA.txt

just kidding

think i know what it is, do you use yahoo messenger?
even for msn messenger, dont know if they made it for aol and other messengers but i have seen/used something like this in the past and same hacker made that.
If yes, change your password, secret question and search your computer for trojans.

Well,
I think I'm being hacked now, like a trojan on my computer.
See, heres the deal :
Whenever I start my computer, a little message pops up like an error and it will say multiple messages, for example:

"Maybe you should report me if they don't know me yet!"

"Everything is still o.k. but I cant simple trash your firewall"

and then the most recent :

" Is everything O.K? "

If I click Yes : "Your smarter then I though"

If I click No : " Run rabbit Run!"

Yet these messages have been apearing for about a month now, and nothing is really bad, I think it could just be something internal, maybe like a trick from ZoneAlarm to purchase their software? Hrmm...
thanks

Do the messages look like the normal windows boxes?

Kind of like the one below only with the messages on it?

If so I have a quick fix for you.

Let me know.

Yeah they are!
Its like that, and they usually say, Yes or No or Ok.
Please help! Thanks for your care prstudio.
I'll put up a screen shot of it in about 10 minutes, hold on.
thanks

Ive never used a firewall, hate them with a passion! I feel pretty secure behind the NAT on my router though, and everything of importance is one monitor over on a machine not connected to the internet. All downloads and info I wanna keep are transfered over to it via an external usb hard drive. Other than cd keys to my online games theres really nothing on this machine a hacker would be interested in so no worries.

Shields up tells me I'm !00% stealthed from a hacker if you can believe that though?

I've never been hacked to my knowledge but I recently installed a firewall to be safe. The firewall I installed is Zonealarm (free version) and it works great according to Symantec's online security check I just ran. I'm really impressed by this!

If any of you are curious here's the link to check your security

Also, Zonealarm is free at www.cnet.com
