hi,

i'm just getting into Maya 4.5 (PLE) and there are 3 things that are bugging me and i can't find specific answers to them anywhere...

1) lets say i have a poly cube, and delete one of the faces. If i then realise i needed that face, how can i get it back (apart from recreating it, because if it was a more complex thing i'd been working on I wouldn't want to have to redo it all).

2) with a sub-div object, can i delete/undo a whole level of detail? i.e I made a shape, then needed some precision so went to 'refine' but then end up not needing it... how can i restore it to a simpler form?

3) how do i add points to a curve i've drawn? Not adding more to the end, but in effect dividing the path i've already got into more segments.

thanks :)
sorry they're such n00b Q's, but i can't find the answers in tutes or anything, and my help files won't work for some reason.

1) you can use the create polygon tool. modeling tool set/ polygon / create polygon tool...

so draw it , line it up the nodes (points) then combine the shapes.

2) not sure what you mean?, you always have your Ctl- z though.

3) it this is a polygon shape , then you would use the app points tool. find it under the modeling tool set / edit polygons / add point tool.

Now you click on a point of the line, which will add a point then you click on another point in a line which would add a point do this till you are satisfied then hit enter to finish.

hope this helps :)

For #3, in 3DsMax *which might be similar* you can go to the edge subobject level, and theres a divide button where you can place a point anywhere on an edge. Hope that helps, not sure how similar Maya and Max are though.

for #2...

k, let's just say i create a sphere. Then, if i go into face mode, select a face then hold the right button, i can go to "refine" which will add another 'display level'. I can repeat this which makes the object more and more detailed... i.e you can make finer tweaks.

but they say you should model at the simplest level you can, so let's say i want to make the sphere simpler again, say only 1 sub-div level... how do i do that?

hope i'm making sense...

same way , but instead of selecting refine, select the other (forgot the name off the top of my head) its just a selection method, it dosent actually make the object more details just your selections are more "defined"
