Guys, i used [ps] to do most stuff coming out of any direction i think of but never really thought what to do planned out. I like those splash pages like these two:

www.pixelfly.net
www.tetsoo.com

Im interested in knowing how to create the grey background and how its like a gradient similarly in both of those two websites. I would appreciate step by step help if it can be done. If there is already existing tutorials around that would also be great.

The first one looks pretty much like just a plain and simple gradient in Photoshop. Use the gradient fill option in the fill tool to do that.

The second one looks more like blocks of colour. You can do that just by using the rectangular marquee and filling each selection with a carefully chosen colour that blends with the one next to it...

The second is another simple gradient - basically they've drawn a grey to paler grey gradient, then used the square marquee tools to cut out bits of it, to form the seperate squares. Let me know if you want a step by step tutorial on it.
