think xsi has it, where you can get like a brush and your able to paint the faces you want to select. easy than just clickin on each face.

never mind, let one of 3dmax dudes answer this one.

like vertex paint or UV mapping? If not go into sub object mode and select polygons or vertes. Then in a side view with the selction tool. Drag a square around the front of the circle.

You can change the selection tool to circular if the square one isn't selecting the faces you like.

I found that other silly selection thing. New question: You know how when you use the move, rotate, or scale tool, you can move the mouse over one axis and it selects that axis, then you can move it over a different one, etc? Well, now I have to select with a special toolbar. I don't know what changed, I certainly didnt change anything. Is there a way to either change this back to the ordinary modification method, or to reset to the original max settings?

Re-load the default max ui.

go to {customize}
then {load ui}
then click on the default max layout.

this should reload max to it original purchase state, unless you wrote over the file.

keyboard shortcut 'x' toggles the "active" axis... perhaps you inadvertantly toggled it off?
