I dropped a shadow that had 50% darkeness and 75% opacity on text in Illustrator. I want to put a image behind it so it give the effect that they text is in front of the image. The only problem I have is that when I put the image on a layer behind the shadowed text, the shadow doesn't show up. PLEASE help me out on this simple problem.

that shouldnt be happening, :h: what type of drop shadow are you placing, are you creating it from the filter menu or the effect/stylise menu?

Photoshop is capable of nicer drop shadows... Ive never liked the way that illustrator drop shadows print...
Try making sure that the drop shadow and the object are 'grouped' together, and then make sure that the overlapping object is "sent to back" CTRL+ SHFT + {

drops in illustrator can give you hell when printing as well. but follow what Majeye said about grouping of the shadow and object and making sure that both are last on the layer stack.

I'm not an Ill expert, but I bet if you select all the items you wish to group, then hit CTRL + G ...
I imagine, just like in almost every other prog, will group the objects...
ever thought of reading a help file, Mike?

Yes, i have looked in the help file, i know how to group things like shapes but not effects... You don't *select* the shadow. When you apply it, it automatically follows the text (or object).... please, dont patrionize me

so don't put the drop shadow on, in Illustrator...
why are you using a vector prog primarily designed for print work, for something which isn't vector (shadows are raster), or isn't for print?
simply save without drop shadow, then open in Photoshop, add drop shadow, and continue as normal...
Or is there a reason you have to use only Illustrator?

they are just George's Eyes...
as far as your question, try to find a tut on creating your own drop shadow, without using the effect (it is not really difficult), and place that on a layer beneath the text, yet above the image in the background.
