well i was wondering if i needed fireworks, cause i can do the same stuff in both programs. Fireworks is a little easier though.

well it all depends on what you need the apps for. Illustrator handles vector graphics, its a industry standard. While i only use fireworks to sometimes slice up my psd images. so i use both.

As far as the program question... Soulty pretty much answered you...;)
Now the Avatar question....I would lean towards sad..:to:
No really, for some reason, I really hate when people use their photos. I don't know why, but no matter what they look like, it turns my stomach. If you are a designer, then DESIGN something!

both do vector well. I personally have both installed, but rarely use Ill.
Then again, 90% of my work is for the web, so take that with a grain of salt...

I would honestly say use both......AI has a bunch of vector tools that FW does not but FW does web stuff much better than AI in my opinion. So it depends on what you do more of print or web.

all my personal graphics are done in Fireworks. Thats about all I use. That and maybe Flash (I like how it handles curves for some situations). PS and Illustrator I only use for work when I need to. Whats even nicer is that a Fireworks PNG is much smaller in file size compared to its PSD equiv. This makes transporting files from work to home via the net a bit more comforting (home on dialup). All the graphics in all my tutorials and all of them on my site are made in FW :)
... but a lot is just how you use it, what its being used for and you're preferences. And you'll finally come to that on every PS/Illus vs Fireworks discussion. You get a little more power with the two (3 if you count imageready) beefy Adobe products, but most of that can be done well enough with one MM product.
