Which one would you recommend and why??

well, there are many issues afoot here and you can't make any valued decision without a) buying both cards and testing them or b) reading a whole load of reviews that are as unbiased as possible.
I'm not really sure that there is much difference between the two - only a small percentage of performance difference between most of the Nvidia/Radeon equivalent cards. Some say Nvidia have been cheating with some of their recent drivers, Radeon doesn't have good heatsinking technology (i.e. the cards run really hot and you'll probably have to buy a new fan).. etcetcetc - whatever someone from the GeForce camp comes out with, another fanboy from the Radeon camp will come out with something else and vice versa. It's kinda an eternal question that will probably never be answered.
it's all really based on what you can afford... speaking of which...
..if you're interested, I'm actually selling my GeForce Fx5600 256mb RAM card at the moment. It's less than a month old and in perfect working condition - if you're interested in taking it off my hands, then send me a PM or an email :)

Never more G-force. www.teakers.net is a dutch hardware site. THey testet everything. And Radeon 9600 pro was better then the GeForce FX 5600

ATI have faster cards atm, but as asphalt said, some people have cooling issues with them.
Both the major manufacturers go thru phases: atm, it's an ATI phase.
A while ago, nVidia made more powerful cards, but for now, ATI are best.
it's somewhat similar to the AMD-Intel CPU dispute: one's on top for performance, but not for price
I'm getting a Radeon 9800 XT at the end of this month, so the short answer: ATI :P

ATI > NVidia
The only thing NVidia has over ATI is it's better support (Drivers).

I'm a Nvidia man myself, but I really don't think there's much of a difference between the two. Like asphalt said, the only real way to tell which one will perform better on YOUR system, is to buy them both, test them, and then return the slower card...

It is definitely ATI's turn. Get a Radeon. At least for the time being. :thumb:

nvidia's technology is amazing...the processors on their boards are bar none.
Just look at the advances in their onboard chipsets? Running better than most card based systems.
I'd go with NVidia all the way.

Nvidia !!! It's compatible with almost all application. My geforce FX 5900 serves me quite well, lets just say NFS underground at 1280 X 1024 @ 32 full quality setting , motion blur on ,with no gliches, and multiple display still on.
:: for 3d uses, Nvidia works perfectly for Maya, max ;) known problems with ATI :!:

I'm loving all the "as asphalt said"'s :D
as I said (;)), both camps have their own opinions on who's better. you'll never get a straight answer. as eilsoe said, testing both cards is a good idea, if a little difficult for some of us :)
it's all about what you can afford.

Why is the next Xbox going to use ATI and not nvidia. cards ?
Because ATI is better. The old Xbox is using nvidia. cards
But I dont know when the new Xbox will come, but it will have a ATI graphic card
Maybe ATI payed better than nvidia company, maybe thats why they are going to use it ? :D

There was an article on tweakers that said ATI was coming with a new "all-in-wonder" series of the 9600, 9700, 9800. Including remote control 'n stuff. Really cool!!!

Okey, lets get this straight:
I have both cards, the ATI 9600 Pro, and the G-Force 5600.
At first everything was good with the ATI, until randomly, any game would crash (3D). This was totally random. I tried downloading all the different driver versions out there, but nothing helped.
So I got the G-Force, and havnt had a single crash.
This is the ultimate conclusion:
---------------------------------------
Ati is faster then the the G-Force, theres no question.
But G-Force drivers are MUCH more stable. I wont buy another ATI product for a long time. I mean, if your graphics card hangs in 3D apps, what good is it? ATI has pathetic drivers.
Stick with G-Force.

GeForce 4 (DDR) KICKS A**

January 30th, 2004, 06:44 PM
exactly what i was talking about in my first post..
"known problems with ATI" while GForce run smooth and safe
-multiple monitors with no problems as well
-most all games run smooth, no hiccups
-mostly all 3d apps work perfectly and run faster than ATI cards (opengl and direct 3d support) (you also have the driver options of soft-quadro -- make your regular nvdia card into a 3d monster! )
-etc....
-etc...
-etc...

NVIDEA all the way!
Heatsink + best support + multi monitor support + great price
Bah, ATI might be a b-52 and NVIDEA might be a tank, but a tank equiped with an ICBM.

"GeForce 4 (DDR) KICKS A**"
yeh it does. One of my friend's got the 64mb geforce 4 440mx and its runs great. Smooth and stable especially with war3. I serzly regret getting a hp comp ever since :(. Though it wont cost me much to get a few bit and pieces upgraded or changed ;)

ATI cards have dual monitor support.
Also, according to the benchmarks, they're faster. The drivers used to be terrible, but they've got better and better, and are now roughly on par with the nvidia drivers.

Got an ATI 9500 Pro and from now on will stick with ATI, all the comps I've built are built with ATI, and my friends who've built comps also stick with ATI. After a lot benchmarking, the ATI's have given the better stats.
