First off I would like to say sorry for posting all of these questions but I have my first major job and I am still really new to PS. (Just dont tell anyone ;) )

My first questions is, is there an easy way to put Illustrator layers, or objects into flash. Do you have to export it as a GIF first? I made a layout of my site completely in Illustrator and I want to export some of the objects into Flash without having to covert the whole thing into a GIF

My second question is, is there an easy way to make a triangle in Illustrator? I know this sounds really dumb but Just by rotating lines makes the triangel look crummy. Thanks for your patience.

Mike

fo your triangle just use your polygon tool then click once on the artboard that should bring up a input parameters box for your triangle. Select 3 for the sides and the sizes and you should good to go......Try not to create primitives by hand. For your flash question I would just show hide the different layer and exprt each as an image into flash and re-assemble the layers in flash use png's when possible

You can export right out of Illustrator as a swf and bring that up in Flash. For MX it works okay if you don't have a ton of anchor points in your vectors. I've had some trouble with that when bringing in say the outline of a country where the coast is all crazy, or roads that have lots of twists and turns. Colors also sometimes need to be tweaked.

I've heard that MX2004 version of flash handles illustrator files better but I don't know that for sure.

Oh and when you export out of flash you have the option to make each layer it's own frame in flash which can be SUPER handy so you don't have to go back and copy and paste everything separately out of one frame.

When I try to export to Flash MX 2004 it makes it seem like I can only play the movie, not edit it. Can you edit SWF files or just FLA's? It seems that when exporting from Photoshop I can edit it. Any Help?

1. I've always had luck with good ol' copy/paste. Just make sure your Illustrator stuff is RGB (not CMYK), and it should paste right into Flash. It'll ask if you want it flattened, or each object pasted as a layer, which is up to you.
2. If it doesn't work, save the AI as version 8 (not eps, jst ai8), and import from Flash.
3. If THAT doesn't work, open your Illustrator file in Freehand, and do the copy/paste from there. That should override the corporate disputes between Adobe and macromedia that makes this kind of thing difficult.

Depends on the version of Illustrator. For I think v8 and down, Select All, then Filter > Color> Convert to RGB.
For v9 - CS, I think it's File > Document Setup, or File > Document Color Mode.

Have you tried, in Illustrator, going to File --> Export, change the file type to Macromedia swf. Then in Flash go to File --> Import (NOT Import to Library, JUST Import) the swf? I've brought in many many Illustrator files that way and never had a problem. Doesn't matter if you are RGB, CMYK, greyscale, etc. Flash will convert all CMYK into RGB, unfortunately, so you might have to tweak some colors. Everything also comes in grouped and I've even had masks created but you still get vector or raster art that you can select and manipulate.

If you are still having problems let me know and maybe I can import the file for you.

or, you could copy/paste into photoshop and then from photoshop to flash. I've found that works well with Flash MX and Photoshop 6 & 7

Yeah, if none of the 3 things I listed above works well, I usually have to give in and take the method that worked At All, then clean it up in Flash shape by shape. But one of those 3 usually works...

Export as swf from Illustrator is the best method. If you can avoid using raster images in your flash files, then do it.

When exporting to SWF's i can't edit the image. Don't I have to export into a FLA? Am I missing something?

In Illustrator:
Choose File > Export
Select Flash(.swf) as the file type

then in your Flash movie (fla):
choose File > Import
Choose the file you just exported from Illustrator

The image will appear on the stage as one group or as groups of objects. Any masks from Illustrator will be included just as if you had created the mask in Flash. Edit the image by adjusting each grouped object individually or by breaking it apart (not advised if you have masks from the illustrator file).

I advise changing your AI import into a symbol so that you keep all the imported groups together.
