MSN w/msgplus
I typically use skype also for voice chat, nice alternative to the long distance fees for calls overseas.

I use AIM with DeadAIM 4.1

I've tried AIM alternatives like Trillian, but I absolutely hated it. Everyone I talk to has AOL, so I'm kinda forced into sticking with it.

I use MSN because my friends are on it.
I think Yahoo is just as good though :)

yes, if i could make an hybrid of IM's - that'd be MSN/Yahoo.

By the way: i think devil is dead??

I wish they made an iChat for Windows :-\

I love how the buddy icons talk to each other in the little word bubbles :P It's so cool!

yah! But it's confusing in chat rooms if you don't have everyone's buddy icon :P

Its soooo annoying! And it takes a lot to get it normal... although its not even normal at that point. Its a cheap gimmick that just makes it look cool but really just takes up space and makes it hard to use

I've tried Trillian in the past, never liked it too much. I'm using AIM now mainly, but my main problem is that if I use Trillian, some of the MSN/AIM features won't be there, that means I still have to install MSN and AIM on the side. Pointless.

I felt the same way about trillian. So I dont use it.. just use the others when I want to. At least I know I'll have all the features (at least those which are supposed to be there).

Agreed. Although I highly doubt AOL will make a hybrid with MSN, that'd be crazy.

I agree with RR...

If I need to "Instantly" message someone, I pick up the phone. Seriously, the rates are so cheap nowadays, if there is a charge at all, that it's so nice to be able to hear the influction of the voice...

I know, Old man speaks again...

yes yes yes, get with the times ;)

Its all about multi-tasking. You cant talk privately between 4 people at once using the phone, and photos and files don't carry over too well verbally. :)

I generally have ftp capabilities to most everyone who would have an IM app installed... I only have 2 living relatives, and one of them I don't talk to... speaker phones work very well... and I can work and talk on the phone at the same time...

I just haven't found the need. I've used them, been more irritated by them than helped, so I uninstall them each time I try them.

Then again, my generation is used to actually speaking to a human...

I think when it comes to work, the phone is better. You're right about speaker phones and ftp sites etc. Thats all you really need. IMs are more recreation.

I used to like ICQ about 6 years ago, but MSN gets my vote now.

Max, the only features that aim doesn't have is the Vid/Comm. features, which most people, especially if you are behind multiple fire walls, i.e. on a university campus, you can't use anyways. Trillian is off the hizzo ;)

Yahoo.. Best features for a messenger.. less hassles with file handling and cool webcam modes... MSN keeps em embedded n the window.. How annoying!
