Does it still work if you take out all the parts and just have a shell? I heard the parts are just there to add weight.

I have one of the original xboxes that never hit the streets. The see thru green ones. Not the one that you can buy today but the original (Xboxes were initally going to be see thru green with black being released later). But I have seen some seriously wicked mods to the xbox tho.

Is that true???I've heard the same thing, I believe it's true. There was a guy renting games at my vid store for a bit, and he modded xbox's. Said he could copy the game to the box with a mod chip; there was a switch that allowed him to play them; but if you are ever caught with the switch set to on on xbox live, you get banned for life. So you need to buy the games to play them live, and set the switch off.

hmmm...I was seriously considering moding my xbox like 5 months ago, then i heard about xbox live issues. Thats why i just decided not to. Thing is I'm not really a hard gamer anyway so i dont need that many games. The only reason i would do it would be to play all kinds of dvd's on it. But hey, Who really wants to get banned from xbox live for life ?!?!?! I think i'll pass :run:
Thanks for the reply though ;)

YES, u can play in live as long as u turn off ur chip before playing, like radioxromance said (with a switch installed of course :)), bacause u can be banned from the service if its on. There´s nothing like having ur xbox modded :pleased:

It was one of the perks of my former job. I just kept it. Good thing is that it plays burnt games. Bad thing is it only plays burnt games....lol. It does not play the new titles (it was a development xbox).

I have a Xenium modchip and it's been great so far. It has an option for turning off the mod right when you boot up (just press in the white button and boot to stock bios instead of a hacked one). It's very simple really.
the benifits are awesome with a hacked box. You have a home multi-media system all in one. It plays games, dvd's, vcd's, svcd's, divx, kvcd's, mpeg's, all audio and image formats... the list goes on and on. I also like that I don't have to switch disks all the time when playing a new game.
I love my modded box

Do you have to solder with a soft mod? I heard about a mod chip that has pins on springs so you don't have to solder. If there is a way to play the games I saved on the hard drive then I would jump on this. Never heard of a soft mod.

pins on springs so you don't have to solder.
Your thinking of POGO pins and they are not on springs like a pogo stick or something. Yes you can install a mod chip without soldering that is light modding but with light modding you don’t even have to open the case up their are exploits in games that you can use to load Linux into the xbox. But this can be a hassle and you have to get all the right stuff. Solder less mod chips like the Xecuter2.3B light +. This uses pins to push down into the ports that you would normally have to solder this is a good alternative if you do not like to solder but soldering is by far the best way you get a 100% connection. I have tried other ways and they do work but sometimes you don’t get a good connection and you xbox wont start so you have to open the xbox and jiggle it around and it is a pain.

I have a solderless mod using pogo pins and it has worked great so far! I have even taken the box on a camping trip (mind you I was pretty carefull not to move the thing around too much) and all still works fine.
I recommend reading everything you can on the specific chip you plan on getting and especially the forums of the makers of the chip you are looking at. www.xbox-scene.com is also an amazing resource. A Bookmark for sure!

I so want to Mod my X-box. I am pretty tech savvy just have been kind of intimidated by the whole thing.
If its not that hard to soft-mod then maybe I will consider this. I just certainly want to make sure I dont loose live. Thats the greatest thing about it.

if you opened up your box you would see that it is IDENTICAL to a computer except for a difference of a couple of pins... hell the original hd you have in yours is most likely the 8 gig western digital that they were giving out and the dvd rom is either samsung or toshiba (hopfully samsung or else youll be replacing it soon since the others dont last long) but Its very straight forward. The hardest about either software modding or hardware modding your xbox is going to be finding the software to load on it since its technically "illegal" but isnt at the same time... any kind of add on software you load onto the xbox is made with whats called the Micosoft XDK "xbox development Kit" which is what microsoft has developed to compile xbox programming code. Where you will be told to find all this is MIRC at a little channel called XBINS (which I will tell you where that is) if your familiar with mirc goto and efnet server and search X-bins room and youll find what you need to do... I also have all the software precompiled so if you need any help with how to install it let me know zerosignal0@msn.com
heres a quick rundown on what you need if you hardware mod your xbox
1:)install the modchip using directions they give.
2:)decide what dashboard your going to use (the most popular is evolution x)
so look for the precompiled version of that in xbins that I mentioned earlier
3:)there will be a tutorial in the evolution x software that you download on creating a boot up disc for your xbox that you will load into with your modchip on the first time you boot up with your modchip. this will enable to you to FTP into your xbox to install the actual dashboard files into it. Im not going to explain that because they do a pretty good job in the tutorial that comes with evolution x
4:)do what they say, install the boot files over ftp to your xbox and restart your xbox
5:)enjoy
heres what you do to software mod your xbox

Hey, since it's been resurrected - I pulled my old HD out of my original xbox and want to use it in an old computer. I heard that you have to do a bunch of soldering and hotswapping to do this. Is that true?

Nope you just need to unlock the HDD if its softmodded its quite easy if the xbox is still working otherwise your busted and ahve to de-solder the xbox eprom and read it on a eprom reader in order to get the unlocking code for the HDD.
Each Xbox1 HDD is tied to the console you cant put it on another xbox without unlocking it first I think slayers CD has a program to unlock the HDD check out the forums at www.xbox-scene.com for more info good luck
