I have attached a picture of a tree. I would like the tree to be white and the background to be black, kind of like the Ipod commericials. I am not exactly sure what this is called or how to do this in Photoshop but can someone please do this real quick and attach the image with an explanation of how it was accomplished? Thanks.

it's called 'vector' and it's usually done in illustrator or a similar vector-based program... in photoshop it'd be possible, but i think it's harder.

your image would be very time-consuming because of all the intricate details...
if you want to learn how to do it, search for vector tutes on google (or in our stickies link) coz there are heaps :)

good luck

nice link yeldbarb :)

mlkedave : i did a really quick (shoddy) job of trying to achieve your effect without using vectors, but the image really is kinda detailed, so it didn't work out very well...

here's the link anyway. I just used Threshhold to make the tree stand out, then erased any straggly bits and painted in any gaps, then just inverted :)

I'd just up the contrast a ton, then play with colors.
