"I would rather take a razor to my manhood and then dip the stub in a bowl full of rubbing alcohol than go to a movie by myself."
How many times have you seen, or do you go see movies alone?

I'm going to say Never since I never have and I don't have a car so even if I really wanted to it would be fairly difficult... in the VERY VERY unlikely situation where a movie was coming out and no one would take me, I would find a way to see it anyway. (like if no one wanted to go to see LOTR with me) so in other words it's not out of the question, and I wouldn't exactly feel "bad" about doing it.

Would never even think of going by myself. Maybe if the movie was staring Jesus and Co staring Budah and was directed by God. It could be a cop buddy comdey like Rush Hour.

I don't think i've ever gone to a movie alone. It's like going to your favorite [high-end] restaurant alone, it just doesn't work.
As a matter of fact, i'm gonna go with three of friends to go see LOTR tonight. Should be killer.

Going to the theater, eating at a resturant these are usualy social things that should be done with other ppl. IT jsut seems odd or less enjoyable by yourslef. I know when at a movie you can't really talk with the ppl you came with but still for some reason it jsut isnt' as fun by your self.

Yeah, I always take my girlfriend or a few of my friends or both. If they can't go, I don't either.

Why should you limit yourself to the schedule of others though?
Me? I dine alone at times.. I treat myself to movies at times. It's not that I'm not social.. I enjoy movies with friends by majority of at least 90%... But there are times when I wanna see a movie alone or dine alone... For the comfort of not having my private space invaded and allowing my mind to become loose and clear :D

Dittos all around. Dude - it's just a movie. If no one wanted to see ROTK with me - I have no problem going by myself. Also there were times when my boyfriend and I wanted to see different movies. There's no reason we shouldn't each have our way. He can go see his movie and I'll go see mine.

lol one time...
when i was younger back in high school, i got mad at my parents and took off in the car to see a movie...
rofl...it was like midnight...
other than that ..."no"
It is part of the experience if you ask me, to be in a group of friends.

Other than what I said in the other thread about the lameness involved with taking a date to the movies I have no problem going to the movies solo. I actually get to see what I want without compromising. I think back on all the times when I was younger and I compromised for the group.... screw that see what you want. Your going to be sitting in a dark room not really talking much anyway so whats the difference. LOL Solo is ok.

I clicked the wrong radio button! I wanted to pick never.
It's not like watching a movie alone - which is fine. Going to the movies alone is just sad. No one ever should, because it's not something you do alone.
It a community event. You need at least 1 other person with you.

I've only been to the cinema by my own once before. and that's jsut because my family all went to see Star Wars: Episode 1, which I'd already seen and I couldn't be arsed to see it again..
so what do I vote for? :sure:

Blockbuster nights are for friends, going out to the movies i PREFER to be alone. I don't like when people talk or whatnot in the movies, expecially to me. A few of my friends it's fun to go to a movie with, but they are like me. But usually I'd rather just be alone. Unless it's a drive-in movie, and those are ALWAYS gang events. It's usually a double feature, and we all take blankets and beer and other fun stuff and pump up the volume on my system and watcha flick under the stars. That I wouldn't do alone cuz, the whole fun is more the friends things and less the movie thing.

Lemme put it this way..
IF you can NOT watch a movie by yourself, this either tells me that you are entirely TOO social.. or that you can not go somewhere without some sort of guidance..
And I would think that this would imply to at least 95% of the people..

gah- when you and your friends can take up 2 whole rows of the center section...or even just 3 of your closest buds...its memorable...adds to the excitement, going there, discussing afterwards, laughing...the idea of what movies are about...bringing people together to experience something they couldn't elsewhere

I do everything alone, even play snookers alone (myleft hand against the right hand) Cancerians need no company anyway. It's only few times i have been with someone accompanying me for a movie, first movie i saw alone was "passanger 57" and specially the night shows.
its fun going alone and having a great chance of bumping into some chick sitting on next seat..if the movie is boring, u can talk and try hit on her :player: and so on.... hahahha just kidding guys.

I dont care much about seeing movies at the cinemas anymore, I sometimes just rather wait and get it on dvd, we have a good setup here so the experience is just as good if not better, if i'm watching it by myself, or with my brother or even my friends they all hate as much as i do when someone talks in a movie, so we keep it quiet. The comfort level at home just makes it so much better as well...
To answer the question though, I would not personally watch a movie at the cinemas by myself ( though watching a video/dvd alone at home is great sometimes) , because i would rather experience it with friends even if its just one friend or many, what asphalt said about him turning to his mate during Matrix, pretty much sums it up for me, the experience is that much nicer when shared.
cheers

So all you solo naysayers wouldnt go to a movie you've been waiting to see for a year alone if no one else would go with you? That is INSANE!! Do you seek the approval of others or something? lol. I don't understand how it can be THAT horribly out of the question and borderline offensive to some of you.

Nope I dont care if it was a movie if I want to see or not.
It has nothing to do with the approval of others. If you knew me in real life you would easily understand I could give a flying fruck, what others think of me.
Its just something I would never ever do.

I prefer going to the movies alone, primarily because of my varying schedule. Ideally, I would rather get the DVDs and watch them at home :bad:

Funny this topic is being disscused now. A Canadian News Program like Dateline Called W-5 is doing a hour show on going ot the movies and the social asspects of it. I guess i'll have to watch and see what the experts say.

years ago, before my theater boycott, there was a multiplex just a block away, and since Hawaii is a test market for a lot of movies, I would go to a matinee by myself after I got off work (Pastry Dudes work from early morning to early afternoon)...
That said, I absolutely hate eating in a restaurant by myself. If there is a counter, I will eat there (plus I like to see my food being prepared... a sanitation thing), so I eat at Diners quite a bit when I go out... But I hate it when I travel for business, and have to eat alone in a decent restaurant. I just feel everyone is staring at me...
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me...

hahaha Rev - I feel yah.
I remember one time I went to tim hortons by myself one morning before an interview or something. I didnt have a book or paper so I just sat there and ate and drank by myself. It felt like the enitre place was staring at me!
As for movies - never. I have never done that before. But to be honest, I dont' see what would be so bad about it. I mean you dont talk to anyone anyway so except for the company on the way there and home again there really isnt much interaction. One of the huge reasons not to take a first date to the movies. No talking

I'm horrible to go to movies with...
I constantly comment on all aspects of the movie, or talk back to the screen, or the like... people get upset...
another reason for my theater boycott (so now you know, it wasn't entirely self-imposed)...

haha rev,
we are audible in the theatre but only if there is a "good theatre."
Cracking jokes, laughing, reacting...sometimes the whole place gets into it...but that us crazy Florida people.
Diners? I wish we had some of those around here. There are the bar seats, but it doesn't really have that diner feel...closest thing is a steak and shake around here. lol.

That's actually not that off. I have met new people going alone. Oftentimes the guy next to me starts talking to me while the previews or advertisements are on. It's easy to break the ice in this situation and since I'm by myself, I think I'm more approachable. Sometimes they even offer me popcorn. I guess I like meeting new people. So it can actually still be very social.

Im keeping my nuggs! I've gone to movies before alone, but only if I desperately wanted to see the movie and there was no one to go with. I don't mind going alone, its just that I go often enough and I usually go with someone so I don't run into that situation where I don't often enough to worry about it. If I'm just bored, going to the movies is never something I just consider doing if alone.
I don't mind eating alone either as long as I have something to read or keep myself occupied. Its not too fun eating and starring blankly off into space... at least not in a typical resturant atmosphere. Granted some cafes etc offer some decent people-watching seating which can be good enough for a quick lunch here and there (dinner is not usually done solo. Might as well make yourself something and veg on the couch).
At the same time I greatly enjoy watching DVDs at home - usually alone... and actually usually on the computer while working (if working at home). More often than none I watch movies on my way to bed, though under those circumstances Im left with many half-seen movies :P
