Link Intranet from Website?

Is it possible to link an Intranet from a Website?

What would I need?

A client aks if he can and other collegues have acces
to his Intranet from the Web.
On his website, he wants an "Intranet" button.

I presume that he needs a secure login page but I don't
know if he has done this part already...
I want to learn how this works before asking him.

Is it possible that he just needs to give me a link so I
can link the button to the Intranet?
For ex: http://intranet.hisintranet.com

If not, is it just a matter of building a simple secure ASP login page?
