For all you pixel pushers out there, how long would it take you to make the image here, and how much would you charge?

E: Did you actually move the image around and see that its actually a map of the key government buildings in Washington, DC ? I'm sure that it took much more than a week and it would probably cost a couple thousand to do... I know that I certainly wouldn't embark on something like that for less than $2000

yup, I think 40 hours should do it...

I'd charge about $2k, and want decent arial pictures of the landmarks/roads/area.

god - that's sooooo much work there, what a place! I wonder if there was some kind of program to do it or they had to do it all by hand.

I'm sure there was more than one person working on it. Since the site is a government site they don't care about spending money on seemingly pointless things. If I would take a guess I bet a couple pixel-artists/designers got paid about $7,000-10,000 to do that

the hardest part is the buildings.
The roads are just tedius.
He made 3 or 4 seperate trees and copied them for christ sake.

and the background is stripes with color and lighting jobs at certain parts :sigh:

I'd do it for 2K$! :thumb:

and jubba, yeeeess, I diiid, I'm not a dimwit :sigh:

I'd like a second opinion on that...

I realize that some of those things that you mentioned is just copy/paste the trees and such and the buildings too, but if you look at where there are no buildings, there are outlines to where the buildings would be... It just seems to indepth and too much detail to be done in such a short amount of time...

Eh, but then again I suck at pixel stuff....

yes there are outlines, but no buildings there, riight? ;)

and I DO think it's an amazing job, I just don't think it's taken ages to do... :)

And what the hell is this supposed to mean?

Well, we just noticed that the DC government had that map and we wanted to know how much it would cost for us to offer something similar. I was actually thinking that it would take two days to do. One day to to the roads and base map, and another day to do the custom icons.

I think the base map is pretty easy (roads, blocks, parks and water). I thought the water would be pretty hard to do, at the detail that they've made it, but I figured out that the easiest thing to do would be to make the river's shape in illustrator, add a couple of gradients and shadows, take it into photoshop and run a noise filter and save it as a gif with 4 colors and lots of dithering.

But the most important thing about this is that I want to find a person who can design icons like that. I can do it, but I don't have the kind of time to keep up with my production schedule and do those icons, so I'd need to find a freelancer to do that kind of stuff.

Lava, I think it'd take way more than 2 days if you want it to be pixel art.

Wow, that would have taken ages to make!

I can only dream of a project that large!

Pixel stuff rules!

My pixel art is mostly 2d, my 3d-ish stuff looks pretty rubbish!
