Here's the base mesh of a character I've been working on and off for the last couple of weeks. I've almost got the skeleton rigged... just working out a few details.

cool stuff !! :thumb: glad to see you back in here.. how did you stay away??? ....lol....
will look great smoothed out and textured. body proportions give it a nice characteristic, you going the full nine yards and giving it facial animation?

pretty sweet; if you have some moccaps sequences (i know your figure isnt rigged as a human but ohwell) fit them to the skeleton and make a few avis, ill be impressed!!!!

Thanks for the kind words :)
Here's the IK rig for the mesh. I haven't fully worked out all the bugs so he's a little more difficult to move than he should be, and there are some deformations that aren't quite to my liking... but I enjoyed it more than using character studio, which can be a little restrictive.
No motion capture for this dude, but Max 5's new curve functions should make animating it a tad easier than it used to be. No facial animations either... I didn't include much detail in the face so it mightn't work too well. When I get around to it he'll have a mouth that opens and closes (for a nice cheesy grin).

Here's a quick shot of the texturing so far... I wasn't going for so many wrinkles in the concept, but once I start I just can't stop. I don't have a tablet on the PC I'm working at so I think I'll have to take this home to work on further... or else risk some hand cramps :P
As always, any comments and crits are welcome.

nah, just a **** smith special. Works a real treat though. I've done a couple of scribbles to get the hang of it, but I think this will be the first real test.

err - just what exactly is WIP? I've been hearing alot about it recently, but I still don't know what it is. Could one of you enlighten me please? It looks like a 3D program, but there seems to be more to it than that

What version of 3D studio are you using. I managed to get my hands on v4 and am wondering if (and how) I would be able to do it there.

Good f*ing luck. This kind of thing takes years of learning to make.

yeah that true morse, especially the rigging up for animation... thats a whole different story!.
But as a positive point, if you do alot of tutorials and work and work at it , you can pick it up pretty quick, all depends if 3d modelling and animation makes sense to you.
