My dad is thinking about switching to Bell Sympatico High Speed instead of Cogeco Cable.

I personally love Cable, and have only had one or two problems with it. I don't know why I'm so terrified of High Speed Phone, so I need to know if it's worth *****ing at him about.

They'd both be unlimited usage and bandwidth. That I'm pretty sure of. The rest I don't know.

Is the speed difference worth it?

Please help, thanks in advance.

Well that depends on how much you download and what you download.

If you download huge things like movies and such on a really regular basis from ftp sites and such you might want to stick to cable. At "non peak times" cable is much faster than telephone.

But if you are a huge web surfer and do a lot of emailing and such but not a ton of huge downloads I would say that phone is the best. It is always as fast as it's going to be, so there is no "peak time" to be on which is nice, you dont share your connection with the others in your area and or building and I think it may be a bit cheaper some places.

That's my take.....

Cable is better, period.

I mean why would he want to use dial-up. I mean having to get a new phone line would be an un-needed expense. I have never heard of someone switching off cable other than to go to DSL. I, personally, would be pissed off.

DSL isn't really bad either, so if your dad is getting a good deal with the phone company, go for it :)

I'm pretty sure he meant "DSL" when he said "bell sympatico high speed" and wasn't refering to dial-up

& like sureShot said ... DSL beats cable unless your the only one in your block on the cable at a given time

since you're (he is) shopping around, check out

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo that makes sense. I though he was talking about that new High Speed Dial Up crap. If you are talking about DSL then you probably shouldn't care. They are both great in my eyes. I dont see a point to switch but DSL is great too.
