When I say AS I don't basic things like buttons, GoTo, or Stop();, I mean like advanced actions script. I think that professional websites don't REALLY need advanced AS. I think some designers forcuse to much on this and let the visual aspect of there page crumble because they are focused on, "making the ball bounce towards you mouse whenever you clic or have a calculatar built into your site.

This is just for discussion sake so please don't start calling me a retard, that just how I feel. So what do you think about advanced AS in professional websites?

Then there is always the danger of over flashing or Flashing where not required.

Depends on whether you want the sales pitch or a functional site

flash isn't only used for websites, so that is what these "advanced" as functions and features are used for, are the web applications, games, and other stuff. :thumb:

The two main factors of a website for me are first, good design, then secondly ease of navigation.

All the rest can come as a after though for all i care.

But i know what you mean mlkd.

what about useability beyond navigation

To be honest a website that is going to need good useability is going to be some corporate website that won't nessacarily look great. But it has a purpose and thats to serve people where as a designers site is to woo people stright away with its looks...

that didn't make much sense but i know what i mean.

So the shop window theory. If they stop to look at the shop window they they will hopfully come in to buy?

Yeah you could say that... its like if you go into a scabby cafe you will know straight away that the food isnt going to be very appealing, but if you go into a nice restaurant it may take you until you start to eat that the food is horrible and the only good is the design of the restaurant.

Also kriptic...

mlkeadve, you're right: the average designer doesn't need all the complicated AS stuff offered by Flash. But you have to notice that some of the most creative designers are also amazing coders: Yugo Nakamura, Joshua Davis, JD Hooge...

Those people who are really good, just spend that much time with flash that they just have to learn as... It's like when you have a fast car, you won't just drive 70mph, right :)

what about all the code that you don't even know is there? like the backend stuff. code isn't just for eyecandy. for example, i wrote a form completly in AS, i didnt even draw the input fields. I had almost 100 lines of code just for that and a simple validation.

mlkedave i agree with what u've said, that's one of the reason designers like me who have intermediate skills at the most survive, but u gota b hotshot designer if u can't do AS, usually a mix is prefered in web designing and hotshot scriptors go into gaming field and other stuff.

When you have a team round you you can specialise.

Designer
Developer
Coders
Inovator

but the names about you canbet they know enough about all to put them selves on the map

Yeah you need a team. Most folks will lack in a certain dept. Me I cannot get into AS for some reason. I am really married to 3d. I have semi retired from it. But it seems to be creepingabck into my life. I am trying to form a larger team than the one we have now, but finding quality designers in my area is proving to be difficult....go figure.......*shameless plug* If you are located in the bayarea we are looking for you....
