hi all,

well, i've just got some letters back from Universities and found out that i didn't get any interviews, so basically i can't study there next year.
I'm sure it's different for each country, but anyone got some suggestions for what might be a good idea?
In australia we have TAFE (not sure if it's in other countries) which is kinda like a hands-on version of uni, but not regarded so highly. I was thinking maybe i'll do a year there and try again for a uni spot, but i really dunno what to do...
i guess another option might be to try and get a job with a design firm, but i can't imagine that happening without any qualifications (and it'd be harder to get a job than a uni spot i imagine)

i know i want to study design, and i thought i had ok skills (well, better than most of the applicants of my age) but apparently not :(

what do i do?!?!

thanks,
Stuart

Can you do a part time course and get ajunior position in a company then re-apply next year when you have some real experience.

Put a portfolio together and approach companies

theres nothing wrong with Tafe, i went to Hornsby Tafe in sydney because i didnt get into Uni(didnt study art at school and was one person out of 800 applicants, lol..i see why i didnt get in). Going to Tafe was the best thing i did, tafe was excellent and i Highly reccomend it.

I did a 3 year course "Advanced diploma in graphic design", but now the course has changed i think it is Visual Communication, included now are more interactive media classes.

But Dont let not getting into uni get you down, because it's what you make of study that teaches you, the gap between uni and tafe has dramatically decreased over the years so tafe i believe is on par with uni if not better, since Tafe will prepare you up for the industry out there with hand on projects and teachers that work in the industry.

I say go for it, usually Tafe entry start around december or start of January, if you live in Sydney, check out Hornsby tafe, there are up to date with computer and techos (before i left they had, a room of g4's and a room of the new i-macs(swival TTF screens).)

Best of luck!

hmm... interesting....

the tafe thing i was thinking of doing is just a 1 year course, kinda like a folio booster so you can then succeed at interviews for uni.

there were about 3000 applicants for the uni courses, so i guess i didn't really have much chance against the ppl who'd done lots of stuff since leaving school.

i know tafe has got better, so i guess it's probably the best way to get where i want, but it would have been so much easier if i'd got into uni :P

anyhow, i was looking at my preferences and i've got a Multimedia Design course (at uni) listed which i will get into... so another option would be to do that for one year then try to transfer.. or just do that course for the whole duration.

well, thanks for the advice soulman, i dont' feel quite so bad now :D
