it depends on what resolution your users are mostly using

You can bump it up to 750x550.

I wouldn't recommend it...
most people are using an accessory toolbar of some kind (my g/f uses 6 rows of toolbars in IE).
so I design in 750x450 ...
I hate scroll bars tho.

I think size doesn't matter here ;) the important thing is the idea/quality...

Personally I use either 700 x 400 or 750 x 450
Never more - unless of course you want scrolling, and I'm sure you dont if it's a flash site. As Rev said - usually they have some kind of tool bar, such as links, google, spyware, isp stuff, who knows. Better safe then sorry.

I try to use 760x420. If it must be bigger i go 760x600 that way there is only vertical scrolling on 800x600 res. that and i try to keep the menu where it is always on screen

IE with the standard toolbar rows in 800x600, you can max it out (sort of) by using 420 in height, width-wise, you can use up to 780.
The left scrollbar (vertical) is just about 20 pixels wide.
But a rule I use myself is, that I don't care if people have xtra toolbars on, that's not my problem, and usually, I create sites for 1024x768 resolutions.
the 800x600 standard HAS to go at some point...

I second that. I've stared making less and less for 800x600.

I wish that was the case and judging by a bunch of stats I saw recently - you are right. But to be honest it depends in what area you work. I work in the "business area" with corps like Xerox and such and truth is - most of those monkeys still have 800X600 res because they are using either older computers, or just dont know how to change it.
I really hope that the standard does change one day... it has to!

Umm mario... I'll have to definetly counter you on this..
When you get questions somewhat similar to this on the boards all the time.. If we were to answer all of them all the time.. This board would gte extremely boggled down with messages that have the same exact meaning...
He doesn't mean.. Search through google.. he means.. Search the boards... Because there is likely a post out of the thousands on here that has the answer to your question...
Actually.. I'm surprised you got responses that fast... Usually the first response is.. Try searching the boards.. There are probably topics like this... I wouldn't really bring it down on Phat... It's pretty well justified.

No problemo :) You might not have noticed, but I offered search because you asked a question about the board.
Thank you Marz ;)
