HTML Preloader

My site contains some quite large photographs, hence they take a while to download. I have created a small "egg timer" type animated gif and would like to use this as part of a preloader however I have no idea of how to make one! Any help would be much appreciated...

P.S. I don't want any Flash in this part of my site.

a pre loader does exist, and its not FLASH. Its DHTML and can be found at www.javafile.com under the website tools category.
